This is the inevitable post after jeff_harris released restful-doom https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14919534 twitch-plays-doom is a Python Twitch IRC->restful-doom proxy to control doomguy with a staggering 8 second delay. The project was Saturday night's 'I wonder if I can make this work' session. Since it's been live there has been a team of four successfully make it to half way through E01M01. I've since added godmode to the chat (you can guess the command). This was fun, hope others get some enjoyment out of it. Twitch Stream/Chat…

It might come down to taste, but I feel like a lot of the "features" Twitch has been adding have cluttered the interface while offering little of value for someone like me who just watches streams occasionally and isn't closely involved in community events. But most importantly, I'm bothered by the non-dismissable popups that now appear over the video feed. They seem to be for extensions, but what features they provide evades me. These two uBlock Origin rules (which you can add in the My Filters tab) will remove the main two modals that can pop up over the video:…

This is something fun I’ve been hacking on recently: ridiculously simple group chat. Go to http://faces.io and then get your friends to do the same. That’s it! :-D Currently works best in Chrome. It’s definitely beta status at best. Audio can get weird—be ready to mute. ;-) Let me know what you think!

http://codewords.io/ I've been trying to get permission to run a game of it from the publisher and designer (CGE & Vlaada Chvátil) but I haven't heard back. I've found demonstrating that there's interest in what you're doing is the best way to get ahold of people. So.. Anyone interested in trying a massive game of Codenames over Twitch? Not quite "For Science!" more "For Engineering!" Which, let's be honest here, has a much better ring to it. If you'd like to know more, I put up an FAQ up here: http://codewords.io/faq/ If you'd like to sign up to help,…

Hello HN :) For the last seven months, I've been working on building a highly performant Minecraft event server to break the PvP world record set by EVE Online (8825 players). We will have a proof-of-concept event in December and likely break the world record in January. Many of the largest streamers & YouTubers are interested, so we do not believe getting players will be challenging. I would love to talk if you think you could help us with the goal of getting this record :)

It is a new game much like Minecraft, but with more Deathmatch. Made it in my freetime. Arenas, built by players, can be shared on Twitter/Facebook/etc. and are ranked by how often they are played. You can play it in your browser at: http://julius-eckert.com/game (On OSX only Safari works...) Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDBr8ZD9Uto Do you like it? How would you improve it (including the website)?
