There are a lot of Python to web app frameworks going around these days but I wanted something that was a little more lightweight that just generates HTML pages and can be embedded in Flask or other Python web servers incrementally. PyVibe uses Python components to construct a page with styling that you can use in Flask, in a static site, or even in Pyodide.

I recently dug up an old project in an attempt to improve on it. It's a code sandbox for playing around with HTMX in the browser, that runs a mock server within the sandbox iframe. The server "framework" is loosely based on Django, so if you're familiar with Django, you'll immediately understand what's going on. I recommend clicking through the examples. Github repo: https://github.com/lassebomh/htmx-playground Probably my favorite part is the lack of HTMX specific code. It's designed to mimic the client and server, but really nothing else. In principle, this means that…

Hi all, I'm currently working on my hobby project, and one of the fun constraints I put in was to build using as less dependencies as possible. I chose Go as it has a really good standard library, and all went well for building backend. But for frontend, I was wondering whether I should break the constraint and go for React. I tried options like Web Components, but I really didn't like the ergonomics and I didn't want to use jQuery either. Out of curiosity, I was exploring Go's html/template package to see if I can write UIs in a React-like manner. I found most of the online docs using…

Hey HN, I’m Jimmy, co-founder of Dropbase (https://www.dropbase.io). We are an internal tools builder for Python developers. All you have to do is import any Python scripts/libraries, declare UI components, and layer app permissions so you can share them with others. We’re a middle ground between Airplane and Retool—simpler UI creation than Airplane, more code-centered than Retool. UI building is declarative and you can bind Python scripts/functions to UI components. You can write Python scripts/functions using our App Studio with support from a Python Language…

I built a library that to generate HTML from Python. We have been using this library with Django the last couple of months instead of classic templates and find it to be productive. It is easy to debug, works great with static type checkers and it is easy to build reusable components/partials. Give it a try!

A couple of years ago I wrote Hello Web App (http://hellowebapp.com) to teach beginner Django web app development. It's aimed at non-programmers and designers, and walks folks through building and deploying a basic web app. I'm working on my third book to teach web design fundamentals to programmers (Hello Web Design: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1868398473/hello-web-design-design-basics-for-non-designers), so I've made Hello Web App free online during the Kickstarter campaign for the new book. Hi HN, I have been working on Tetra for the last few months and feel it’s now time to put it out there and get some feedback. Please take a look. There are a few fully functional examples on the homepage: https://www.tetraframework.com Tetra is a full stack component framework for Django built on top of Alpine.js. It is heavily inspired by frameworks such as Laravel Livewire and Phoenix Liveview, enabling you to create server rendered components that respond to user interactions reactively. However, it builds on the concept by allowing you to build “hybrid” components that also…
