24 alternatives to Build in Africa

With the advance of AI, everyone is building and creating solutions. It is actually amazing to see people in Africa engage this creative field and produce products that could help their ecosystem. So I built a platform that will soon be the biggest directory of tech products made by people in Africa to solve African Problems. I am taking this path because I understand we have very different problems and different cultures and things work differently especially in Africa. What do you guys think? I want your feedback on everything.

My name is Nelly Cheboi. I am the co-founder of https://techlitafrica.org, an organization that fosters a more technologically literate Africa by building computer labs in African schools. I was raised in Mogotio, Kenya, in abject poverty. At nine years old, I collected wild vegetables on my way from school to cook for my younger sister. The only way I knew out was by studying. So I studied. I studied hard. And I ended with a full-ride scholarship to Augustana College, IL. I was majoring in Chemistry before I discovered computer science my junior year of college. I loved it. With…

As a founder, I've always had the hardest time building landing pages. You either buy a template and spend hours editing, or scream at Cursor to "make it beautiful". It's exhausting and waste of our time as founders. We simply need AI to generate beautiful landing pages that we can ship. I'd been working on this problem statement for a while and was able to get great results when I provided AI with a detailed design system to follow. So I ended up building a collection where I've curated 100s of design systems for AI tools to use. Now, after launch of Nano-Banana, I updated our flow to first…

Appaca is my third pivot. A couple of years ago, I started working on an idea on no-code platform that generates code. The goal is to help devs and agencies ship products faster for their clients. I went through Antler startup accelerator and got initial funding. I was working on the right problem, but wrong solution. Instead of no-code, I should have jumped into LLM a lot earlier. I felt defeated when Lovable, Base44, and Bolt came out strong, showing the world what LLMs can do in software development. No one cared about my product anymore. I pivoted my startup second time after that, to an…

I couldn't find a simple way to explore the Brazilian startup ecosystem geographically, as I can in other places like the Bay Area or London, so I built one. The map currently includes hundreds of startups from Sao Paulo and their job opportunities. The most interesting thing I've learned so far is how clustered startup activity is in a handful of areas. I'd love to hear your thoughts. The EN version: https://www.startupsbr.com/sao-paulo
