I made this because building UIs in a lexical medium like code is super annoying. I have to pre-render what I’m making in my head, and then jump between the browser and IDE to test. I was inspired by the developer console in chrome and safari since I end up editing css there because it’s ironically more convenient. Hope it’s useful!

Hey HN, I'm Nate, the creator of Tamagui. One is a React framework that does two things differently in hopes of simplifying how we build websites and apps: 1. It unifies React Native and React web with typed file system routing by making Vite able to serve RN. This lets you share (or diverge) your code in a simpler way for cross-platform apps. 2. We've partnered with Zero (https://zerosync.dev) to make local-first work well. We've been building a solution in One that makes Zero supporting server rendering, without waterfalls, and with seamless server/client handoff. ---…

Hey Hackers! My name is Alex and I’ve been working on this project for the past 8 months with the support of Figma Creator Fund. I’d love to hear your thoughts from your experience working with designers & component libraries. I started out in design and later got into coding, so I understand both sides really well. I did UX Design for 12 years at startups, at my own studio and at Wix, and then worked as a front-end dev at Wix for 2 more years. I've noticed a common problem: most component libraries work great for devs but not so well for designers. In my experience working with big teams,…

Basecoat ports the upcoming shadcn/ui v4 [1] to plain HTML + Tailwind (no React): - Live demo & documentation: https://basecoatui.com - MIT‑licensed and free: https://github.com/hunvreus/basecoat/ - Works with any backend (Flask, Django, Rails, PHP, etc.) or static site. - Fully theme‑compatible with shadcn/ui [2]. - Uses a sliver of Alpine.js only for a few interactive bits (e.g. combobox). Swap in your own JS if you prefer. - Dead simple to use, just drop in a class here and there: Click me Why I built it: after moving from a Next.js stack back…

Hi HN. I've been working on a new browser-based design tool that's ready for you to try. The idea is you work on your design in low fidelity wireframes, while still getting a high fidelity output that you can share or use as a reference for your implementation. The way it works is by mapping low fidelity blocks you draw into high fidelity design system & React components. I spent several years working on design tools at companies like Airbnb, and I think the ideas behind many of the tools we built for designing at scale could really help startups and small teams as well. I would love any…

Looking at websites such as Clerk, I began thinking that design engineers might be some kind of wizards. I wanted to understand how they do it, so I started reverse-engineering their components out of curiosity. One thing led to another, and I ended up building a small library of reusable, animated components based on what I found. The library is built in React and Framer Motion. I’d love to hear your feedback

Author here. This is an attempt to simplify frontend development: 1. Standards first: User interfaces should be assembled with HTML, styled with CSS, and enhanced with JavaScript. 2. Less abstractions: UI composition should be easy and require as few idioms and abstractions as possible, both on client and server. 3. Design Systems: Design should be a separate subsystem, easily accessible for developers who care about and understand design. 4. Scalability: Complex UIs should retain simplicity as the application grows. Eager to hear your thoughts!
