Hi HN community, I’m Zach, founder and CEO of Warp, and am excited to show you Warp, a fast Rust-based terminal that’s easy to use and built for teams. As of today, Warp is in public beta and any Mac user can download it. It works with bash, zsh, and fish. The terminal’s teletype-like interface has made it hard for the CLI to thrive. After 20 years of programming, I still find it hard to copy a command’s output; I always forget how to use `tar`; and I always have to relearn how to move my cursor. To fix fundamental accessibility issues, I believe we need to start innovating on the terminal,…

We have been building a package manager for R inspired by Cargo in Rust. The main idea behind rv is to be explicit about the R version in use as well as declaring which dependencies are used in a rproject.toml file for a given project. There's no renv::snapshot equivalent, everything needs to be declared up front, the config file (and resulting lockfile) is the source of truth. This avoids issue where renv might miss information about the installation and is also easy to tweak some packages, eg install one from source and install suggests from another. If you have used…

I've created tascli to solve a need of simple activity tracker including task and record in local CLI. It's available via cargo and brew tap. It's simple, the API is minimal and without complex usage patterns. It supports both task and records and treat them separately (task have deadlines, records are point in time) It doesn't run any background processes. It is small (compiled sizes <2MB) It is fast (<5ms on each command on a normal computer/github workflow host). It stores activities into a local sqlite db file. Looking for new features requests too!

Fleet is an experimental fast, lightweight, open-source, build tool for Rust. Builds with Fleet enabled are up-to 5x faster! For a production repository (infinyon/fluvio) which we tested, we were able to cut down our incremental build times from 29 seconds down to 9 seconds, boosted by Fleet. We saw even better results on dimensionhq/volt, with our build times cut down from 3 minutes to just 1 minute - a 3x speed improvement! How does fleet work? Fleet works by optimizing your builds using existing tooling available in the Rust ecosystem, including seamlessly integrating sccache,…
