24 alternatives to Cased – protect any command line tool in minutes
We’re shipping an execution model that sits between LLM code generation and autonomous agents. The LLM generates only the glue logic between two deterministic interfaces: - a UI schema the frontend knows how to render - a constrained runtime interface exposed by the backend, from specific functions like list_comments to broader primitives like a restricted http_call Both interfaces are fixed, typed, and inspectable. The LLM can’t invent UI components or backend capabilities. It only composes what already exists. This is adjacent to A2UI, but the cut is different. A2UI renders agent actions…

OpenUI▲322Thesys just open-sourced their generative UI rendering engine. Interesting timing given where Google a2ui and Vercel's json-render are headed. The difference worth noting: a2ui and json-render both treat JSONL as the contract between the LLM and the renderer. Thesys is betting that's the wrong primitive. Their engine uses a code-like syntax (OpenUI Lang) instead — LLM writes it, renderer executes it. The argument is that LLMs are fundamentally better at generating code than generating structured data, so you get cleaner output and ~67% fewer tokens. The broader vision seems to be a…

I spent a few hours last weekend testing whether AI can replace code by executing directly. Built a contact manager where every HTTP request goes to an LLM with three tools: database (SQLite), webResponse (HTML/JSON/JS), and updateMemory (feedback). No routes, no controllers, no business logic. The AI designs schemas on first request, generates UIs from paths alone, and evolves based on natural language feedback. It works—forms submit, data persists, APIs return JSON—but it's catastrophically slow (30-60s per request), absurdly expensive ($0.05/request), and has zero UI…

Hey HN, we’re building an open specification that lets agents discover and invoke APIs with natural language, built on the OpenAPI standard. agents.json clearly defines the contract between LLMs and API as a standard that's open, observable, and replicable. Here’s a walkthrough of how it works: https://youtu.be/kby2Wdt2Dtk?si=59xGCDy48Zzwr7ND. There’s 2 parts to this: 1. An agents.json file describes how to link API calls together into outcome-based tools for LLMs. This file sits alongside an OpenAPI file. 2. The agents.json SDK loads agents.json files as tools for an LLM that…

Hey HN, We’ve been building browser agents for a while. In production, we kept converging on the same pattern: deterministic scripts for the happy path, agents only for edge cases. So we built Demonstrate Mode. The idea is simple: You perform your workflow once in a remote browser. Notte records the interactions and generates deterministic automation code. How it works: - Record clicks, inputs, navigations in a cloud browser - Compile them into deterministic code (no LLM at runtime) - Run and deploy on managed browser infrastructure Closest analog is Playwright codegen but: - Infrastructure…

Code Mode▲144I’ve been testing a simple idea inspired by Apple/Cloudflare/Anthropic: LLMs are far better at writing a small program than coordinating multiple tool calls. So instead of giving the model 10+ tools, I exposed one: a TypeScript sandbox with access to the same interfaces. The model writes a script → it runs once → done. What changed - +68% reduction in token use - No multi-step drift or retries - Local models (Llama 3.1 8B / Phi-3) became much more reliable Repo: https://github.com/universal-tool-calling-protocol/code-mode Curious whether others have seen…

I'm Dan, and I built a CLI that lets AI agents design in Figma. What it does: 100 commands to create shapes, text, frames, components, modify styles, export assets. JSX importing that's ~100x faster than any plugin API import. Works with any LLM coding assistant. Why I built it: The official Figma MCP server can only read files. I wanted AI to actually design — create buttons, build layouts, generate entire component systems. Existing solutions were either read-only or required verbose JSON schemas that burn through tokens. Demo (45 sec): https://youtu.be/9eSYVZRle7o Tech…

Single-agent LLMs suck at long-running complex tasks. We’ve open-sourced a multi-agent orchestrator that we’ve been using to handle long-running LLM tasks. We found that single LLM agents tend to stall, loop, or generate non-compiling code, so we built a harness for agents to coordinate over shared context while work is in progress. How it works: 1. Orchestrator agent that manages task decomposition 2. Sub-agents for parallel work 3. Subscriptions to task state and progress 4. Real-time sharing of intermediate discoveries between agents We tested this on a Putnam-level math problem, but the…

G'day, HN! I'm one of the maintainers of `llm`. I've been working alongside a trusty group of contributors to bring this project to life, and we're now at a point where we're ready to share it with the world. Large language models (LLMs) are taking the computing world by storm due to their emergent abilities that allow them to perform a wide variety of tasks, including translation, summarization, code generation, and even some degree of reasoning. However, the ecosystem around LLMs is still in its infancy, and it can be difficult to get started with these models. `llm` is a one-stop shop for…

Hi HN! I'm Erik. We built Butter, an LLM proxy that makes agent systems deterministic by caching and replaying responses, so automations behave consistently across runs. - It’s a chat completions compatible endpoint, making it easy to drop into existing agents with a custom base_url - The cache is template-aware, meaning lookups can treat dynamic content (names, addresses, etc.) as variables You can see it in action in this demo where it memorizes tic-tac-toe games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWbyeZwPjuY Why we built this: before Butter, we were Pig.dev (YC W25), where we…

Prompt instructions like 'never do X' don't hold up in production. LLMs ignore them when context gets long or users push hard. Limits sits between your agent and the real world. Every action — database writes, API calls, refunds — gets intercepted and checked against your rules before it executes. Deterministically. No LLM involved in enforcement. Three modes: Conditions: hard rules on structured data Guideance: validate LLM output before it reaches the user and give the agent chance to reason and retry Guardrails: scan for PII, toxicity, prompt injection etc One line to integrate: npm…

This repo is the result of a debate about what kind of programming language might be appropriate if humans are no longer the primary authors. Initially the thought was "LLMs can just generate binaries directly" (this was before a more famous person had the same idea). But that on reflection seems like a bad approach because languages exist to capture program semantics that are elided by translation to machine code. The next step was to wonder if an existing "machine readable" program representation can be the target for LLM code generation. It turns out yes. This project is the result of…

Current AI-assisted CLI tools are often part of larger systems and work better on Linux. I built llm-term to address these. It's a Rust-based tool that compiles into a single binary file. You only need to download the binary, add it to your PATH, and configure your OpenAI key to get started. While llm-term offers an option for gpt-4o, it works great with gpt-4o-mini. So it's not costly. I appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

At testup.io we have been working for a while to bring artificial intelligence to the field of test automation. Just a few years ago, the primary challenge laid in accurately identifying UI elements following minor structural changes, such as updates to IDs or paths. The emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs) raised the bar for what it meant to be smart. Now, we anticipate the robot to do lots of things autonomously, such as retry in cases of unresponsiveness or handle minor error reports. A more challenging, but soon expected feature, would involve the test robot navigating your web shop…

Hi HN, I’m Thijs, new to the community and excited (and a bit nervous) to share what I’ve been working on: it's called Prototyper. The motivation: I was curious how much more "taste" you could get out of an LLM if you built the entire infra yourself: tool calling, code execution, rendering—instead of layering on top of existing stacks. Over the past year I built a custom compiler, runtime, and design engine from scratch to see if this could make LLM-driven design genuinely better. A few details: - Own compiler + code runtime → no shadcn, no third-party UI kit, no external execution layer. -…

Hey HN, I've been building AutoAgents, an AI agent framework in Rust. Today I'm sharing a feature I haven't seen done well elsewhere: composable middleware layers for LLM inference pipelines. The problem Every agent framework lets you swap LLM providers. Almost none of them give you a structured way to enforce safety, caching, or data sanitization in the inference path itself. You end up with guardrails as application-level if-statements, caching bolted on as a separate service, and PII handling as a "we'll add it later" TODO that never ships. This gets worse with local models. Cloud APIs…

Hi, I’ve been exploring Claude 3.5 code generation abilities for a while and it looks like it can generate more consistent code than other models. However it would still be unmaintainable if you ask it to write a lot of code and it still sucks at system design. So, I’ve been playing around the idea of using the code repository with a template for directory layout and infrastructure, then adding the repository information to Claude and asking it to generate code. It seems that it works, if I pass the structure of some OpenAPI based backend it can update the API definition and implementation…
