I wanted to see how difficult it would be to build a web app using a sub-$300 android smartphone. Decided to build a fun predictions website where you could bet virtual (not real) money on predictions made by others, and also make predictions of your own. Building it turned out to be considerably easier and more fun than I anticipated. Primary tools used were: # QuickEdit as the mobile code editor (Note: the free version of the QuickEdit app is riddled with ads, it shows an advert each time you close a tab, but it unfortunately had the best UI of the 3 or so Android code editors I tested.…

With my friends we wanted to have a nice friendly competition (no money involved) about the football worldcup by predicting the results. I though this might interest other groups of friends so I coded a website just for that in 3 days. Nothing ground breaking but I like the suscription system "Doodle" style with just links, no personal infos... Tell me what you think !

My wife and I just launched this app because we had so much fun with a fitness challenge we did we some friends recently where everyone put in $100 and defined their goals, then only the people who met their goals split the pot. It made us realize there's really no better motivator than money. It's better on mobile screens right now as we just designed for mobile screens for now. And we did manage to put it up on both app stores - it's low in the ranks but you should be able to search it by "Goalie challenges". We built it using the leanest tech stack - Ruby on Rails, server-side HTML (no…

Hey HN, this is Caleb and Zach, we co-founded Vault after realizing how behind the times consumer-facing tech was in the sports betting industry. After creating various products and prototypes for sports bettors for most of 2020 (many with little/no success), in early 2021 we realized a key problem that sports bettors faced... Most of them were tracking their bets, ROI, and net profit using Excel tables or other forms of manual entry. Gaining inspiration from fintech apps such as Intuit Mint and CoPilot, both of which link with your financial accounts and aggregate your data, we created…

Hi guys, I am building Ethercup and I wanted to show you how it works: https://ethercup.github.io/ . On the website is a demo bet live right now on the Kovan test network. This bet opens today and will close in a few days. A How-to is provided on the website, but you can check out the code directly on GitHub: https://github.com/ethercup/ethercup.github.io There's no bug-bounty program, but I'm willing to share profits (if it'll yield any) in case you can break it and point me to it. Looking forward to hearing your feedback :) Also, feel free to ask…

Hey I am Ben and I have built a slack app for scrum poker (slack.thisiseffort.io). You can anonymously vote on software development tasks within slack, it is used by a few remote software developments teams currently and I am keen for more feedback. It is very easy to start a voting session using the /effort command, followed by the title of your task. This then invites everyone in the channel to start voting anonymously, ensuring that no one influences anyone else. Really keen for more feedback and it is also free to use! Enjoy. Ben
