Products that do what ChatGPT counts outloud to 140 – beat our record does
I watch ChatGPT fail to count to 1 million with pretty wild excuses and the user wasn't able to prompt around it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djZVWc1PkIo. My friend and I tried a couple of variations to get it started counting to 1 million, all failed. So we settled for trying to see whats the maximum number we can reach. Methods we tried: - Framing it as an experiment, on beating a benchmark against other llms or its previous runs, encouragement after small successes - Foot in the door - ask to 10, 20, 30, 50, etc - kind of successful, record 110 And the winner: - Simply…

Just for fun I decided to see if I could use chatGPT to solve NYT Connections word puzzles. It uses a pretty straightforward BFS search in which the LLM is first prompted to generate several possible groupings of four related words, and then a different prompt is used to evaluate the soundness of each of those groupings. This approach seems to be able to produce the correct solution somewhat less than half the time. Some observations: * For whatever reason, chatGPT-4 seems to be a bit worse than 3.5 at generating Connections groupings. I haven’t tested systematically so maybe this is just…

I scraped every Show HN from the last 12 months (41,301 posts) plus the full comment tree of every launch with 10+ comments, ~100k comment timestamps, all from the Algolia HN API. The median launch gets 2 points and 0 comments. For launches that do get traction, half the comments they'll ever get arrive within 7.2 hours and 90% within 26, and the top decile decays on the same clock as everyone else. Vote timestamps aren't public, so comment timing is the attention proxy; caveats are in the post. Everything reproduces from the repo with one command…

Recent academic work ([1], [2]) has suggested that LLMs can effectively simulate different Internet subpopulations. For example, you may ask ChatGPT to emulate being a high school teacher explaining Newton’s laws of physics. Building upon this, we created Roundtable, a platform that uses LLMs to predict how people will respond to any arbitrary survey question. To do so, we needed to first reduce bias arising from GPT’s training procedure. Because these models are primarily trained on Internet data, they can be heavily skewed towards the demographics of heavy Internet users (e.g.,…

I have been running my side project for about over a year now and it has finally logged 1 million votes! The site gets on average, for the past 3 months, 600 users a day with an average bounce rate of 47%. Majority of the traffic comes through StumbleUpon. I posted about the site a while back here http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1338487 Site: http://faveone.com

Hey HN, I've personally been having a hard time keeping track of all the changes to AI subscriptions these days. Sama is always tweeting about ChatGPT usage limits being improved as they add more GPUs, nobody knows how many Claude messages you get in a day, and Windsurf just recently updated their pricing plan. It's becoming increasingly difficult to get a clear and transparent view of what you're actually getting with each subscription. This becomes especially frustrating when you run into those annoying “no more remaining message” popups right in the middle of a coding session. I've also…

I kept running into this annoying problem: I’d remember a really useful answer, but not where it was. ChatGPT? Claude? Gemini? No idea. So I’d end up digging through all of them or just rewriting the prompt. Built this to fix that. It’s a Chrome extension that indexes chats locally and lets you search across them all in one place. Once it’s indexed, search is basically instant. Still early. UIs change and break things sometimes, so it’s a bit fragile in places. Curious if other people have the same issue or if it’s just me jumping between tools too much.

We launched our site - GetInspired365.com exactly 10 weeks ago. In that time we've had 36,000 users, of which 30,000 have been unique. We've also just broken 100,000 page views and the average duration on the site is just shy of 2 minutes. We started very slowly and in our first 6 weeks only had 130 users registered (email addresses given to us to receive daily doses of inspiration) and averaged around ~ 100 users a day coming to the site. But now, we are averaging around ~ 1000 users a day coming to the site and have just broken the 500 mark for number of users registered on to our system.…

Hi there, So a buddy a couple of days ago came up with the idea for a new SaaS product regarding gpt and image generation. We did a quick MVP that barely works, it breaks almost 50% of the time but we still wanted to validate the idea before going all in. We have almost 1k followers on Twitter together. Did a quick post describing the idea with a stripe link in the comments with a 5$ value, no landing page, and no shipped product. In exchange, the buyers become beta users. Around 30 mins later we got our first sale next 30 mins another 5$ and so on. Do we consider the idea validated? The…
