24 alternatives to Cmux – Coding Agent Multiplexer
HN, I'm stoked to share this product I've been working on non-stop for the past few weeks. It's an immersive GUI experience for working with many coding agents in parallel. The UX should be familiar to Claude Code users, but we took advantage of the GUI nature to add in a bunch more. cmux is early but certainly usable—almost all of our internal cmux development rolls through cmux itself. Please let me know your thoughts and feedback!
Cmux is a GUI application that enables users to work with multiple coding agents simultaneously in parallel. I run a lot of Claude Code and Codex sessions in parallel. I was using Ghostty with a bunch of split panes, and relying on native macOS notifications to know when an agent needed me. But Claude Code's notification body is always just "Claude is waiting for your input" with no context, and with enough tabs open, I couldn't even read the titles anymore. I tried a few coding orchestrators but most of them were Electron/Tauri apps and the performance bugged me. I also just prefer the terminal since GUI orchestrators lock you into their workflow. So I built cmux as a native macOS app in…

Author here. RMUX started from a frustration: I've used tmux for years and got tired of scraping output with grep and sleeps to automate anything. So I rebuilt the multiplexer from scratch in Rust, with a programmable layer on top. Two surfaces: a tmux-compatible CLI (~90 commands, your keybindings just work), and a typed async Rust SDK on the same daemon — stable pane IDs, structured snapshots, locator-style waits. The idea is Playwright-style automation, but for terminals. Native on Linux, macOS, Windows (real ConPTY, no WSL). Demos and docs at rmux.io. Happy to answer questions about the…

Hi HN, I'm Ethan. I built amux because I was spending more time switching between terminal tabs than actually building things. amux is an open-source agent multiplexer that lets you run, monitor, and control multiple headless Claude Code sessions from a single dashboard — in your browser, on your phone, or from the terminal. The problem: I run 5-10 Claude Code agents at a time across different repos. Keeping track of which one is waiting for input, which one is working, and which one broke something was chaos. I needed a control tower. What it does: - Spin up any number of Claude Code…

Hey HN, Small OSS project that i created for myself and want to share with the community. It's a declarative, scriptable, terminal-based IDE focussed on agentic engineering. That's a lot of jargon, but essentially its a multi-agent IDE that you start in your terminal. Why is that relevant? Thanks to tmux and SSH, it means that you have a really simple and efficient way to create your own always-on coding setup. Boot into your IDE through ssh, give a prompt to claude and close off your machine. In tmux-ide claude will keep working. The tool is intentionally really lightweight, because I think…

Single-agent LLMs suck at long-running complex tasks. We’ve open-sourced a multi-agent orchestrator that we’ve been using to handle long-running LLM tasks. We found that single LLM agents tend to stall, loop, or generate non-compiling code, so we built a harness for agents to coordinate over shared context while work is in progress. How it works: 1. Orchestrator agent that manages task decomposition 2. Sub-agents for parallel work 3. Subscriptions to task state and progress 4. Real-time sharing of intermediate discoveries between agents We tested this on a Putnam-level math problem, but the…

AgentGrid▲77Hi HN, I’m Michael, I built AgentGrid with my friend Souren because we were tired of losing our coding sessions and couldn't keep track of what was actually being built across our many projects. Our approach was to use an infinite canvas desktop app for the TUIs we already know and love, mainly claude + codex. We drew inspiration from Figma and Railway. Overtime we added image nodes, notes, terminals, coding editors, source control, etc. I wasn't sure about it at first. It took me a month to give the first version Souren built a real try. What got me was an Apple System Update I've been…

I've been working on CloudRouter, a skill + CLI that gives coding agents like Claude Code and Codex the ability to start cloud VMs and GPUs. When an agent writes code, it usually needs to start a dev server, run tests, open a browser to verify its work. Today that all happens on your local machine. This works fine for a single task, but the agent is sharing your computer: your ports, RAM, screen. If you run multiple agents in parallel, it gets a bit chaotic. Docker helps with isolation, but it still uses your machine's resources, and doesn't give the agent a browser, a desktop, or a GPU to…

Claude Code is amazing for individuals but terrible for teams. I spent the last six months building my perfect mix of MCP servers, subagents, commands and skills. Claude Code writes 100% of the code now, but sharing this with my team? Painful. 1. Blog posts and workshops don't work (and don't scale) 2. Committing tools to N repos means N PRs. A tool changes? N more PRs. 3. Same tools, different files or folders for each AI assistant; not everyone uses Claude Code It is like 1999 all over again; FTPing files up to prod and versioning with ".bak" suffixes. So I built sx. It is your team's…

I've been a tmux user for years. When I started running 5-10 Claude Code sessions in parallel, I tried the tools that are out there: Conductor, cmux, the GUI orchestrators. None of them felt right. They either wanted me to leave tmux entirely for a 100MB+ Electron app with its own editor and Git workflow, or they were thin wrappers that didn't solve the actual problem: I need to parallelize my entire development environment, agents, editors, servers, logs, and keep track of all of it. So I built jmux. It turns tmux into a parallel development environment. Every session, every agent, every…

We were both genuinely impressed by Claude Code after it helped each of us fix nasty CI problems overnight. Doing those fixes manually would have taken days. After that experience, we each found ourselves struggling through Ctrl+Tab through multiple Claude Code windows in our terminals. While we enjoyed having agents working for us in parallel, context switching and cycling through each terminal tab was a real pain. So we thought: Can we design a TUI dashboard that manages a large swarm of agents in one place? Even better, can agents manage agents hierarchically, like how companies work?…

Code▲20Hey HN, Today we're launching Code, a community-driven, open-source coding agent for your terminal. It's a fork of OpenAI's codex with a focus on developer ergonomics and local control. Key features: - Browser integration – attach to your Chrome via CDP or use a built-in headless browser. You can browse pages, run the CLI in a browser session, and even take screenshots from the terminal. - Multi-agent commands – /plan, /solve and /code orchestrate multiple models (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to propose and implement solutions, with consensus or race options. - Diff viewer – see…
