Products that do what Composable (as in iGoogle, but modern) privacy-friendly new tab does
I spent quite a lot of time working on this one over the last 1.5 years. It started as a small project for my personal use because I wanted to keep all my self-hosted services visible so I wouldn't forget they existed lol. Using a web page wasn't ideal because of the white flicker every time I opened a new tab, so I decided to make this into a browser extension. From that time on, it became a lot bigger and got some traction (which I'm very happy about). It's made with React, but I tried to squeeze maximum performance (limited by my skills and desire to keep it somewhat readable, though) out…

*Problem*: As a developer, I often juggle 50+ tabs across projects. Existing bookmark managers felt clunky, and tab groups required too many clicks. *Solution*: TabTab replaces your new tab page with a grid-style dashboard. Key features: - Save all open tabs as a collection with one click (perfect for debugging sessions) - Self-hosted sync via GitHub Gist/WebDAV (no tracking, your data stays yours) - Keyboard shortcuts & drag-and-drop (demo video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQQEKbI9moc]) *Tech Stack*: Built with WXT (browser extension framework) + React + Tailwind.…

4 months back I started making an extension named monochromate which was basically a greyscale extension, I realised power of them when I turned it on my phone and the thing is being a programmer most of my time is spent on browsers ... and that's where it don't exist (at least not the perfect solution for my needs). That's how I came up with it, made it open source, recently passed 100 users over chrome webstore and it have 5-star rating as of now. and yes you might say that why would I need it when I can do this with filters that can be toggled via settings, thing is I didn't wanted to…

Hello HN! Beginner dev here; read several articles about the challenges faced by users with disabilities (and the impact on businesses). Thought to build a chrome extension to enhance web experience for users with disabilities, after realizing that current solutions focus on auditing web for accessibility. Current features published on Chrome store: Text Magnification | High contrast | Alt text | TTS. Working on (but not published yet) tooltip to explain each feature, additional language support. Will appreciate feedback, collaborations and suggestions of things to improve. GitHub Repo:…

I just finished working on my latest work, zigzaglab.com. It's fluid-responsive and retina-ready. Everything has been achieved using only CSS3 (except for typekit and google map loaders).

minimalistab is an extension for Chrome that replaces the default "New tab" page with a blank WYSIWYG editor for taking notes. Sometimes I need a blank screen to stare at, especially when context switching between tasks; so I made this Chrome extension with basic note taking capabilities. I kept the code as simple as possible, formatted for developers with dyslexia. Let me know your opinions. I hope you find it useful. Feel free to personalize and hack your own copy. Feedback very welcome. DEMO: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/hakaneskici/minimalistab/r... Install…

Hi HN! I’m thrilled to introduce Eyed Out, a privacy-centric browser I developed to help users take control of their online experience. Eyed Out blocks trackers and ads, offers web agent spoofing, and includes handy features like password generation and temporary emails. I built this as a one-man project, and I’m interested into hearing your feedbacks. If you value your privacy while browsing, I invite you to check it out and let me know what you think!

I had an idea to build a Chrome extension to help stay on track with browsing the internet in today's multi-tab-able browsers. I wanted a solution that would encourage (ie, force) me to finish my business on a single given tab before going on to doing something else in another. TabZolo is the result of my dabbling with a buddy. Using the chrome.* APIs, when enabled, the extension forces you to use one tab and window (except incognito windows - but I probably shouldn't have told you that) and kills any new tabs/windows that get created instead replacing the current tab with the new URL.…

Hello HN, My friend and I have spent the last month building an AI-powered browser tab manager. It's a Chrome extension that automatically categorizes all tabs into topics. It also supports some basic organization features like custom groups and locked groups (groups that AI doesn't touch). We would like to experiment with a few other things like nested folders, sync with browser tab grouping, user controlled prompt & categories soon! At the moment we just started looking for early adopters to help us test it + provide suggestions and feedback! Please consider giving it a try if this sounds…

Hello HN, As an avid Firefox user, I have built a simple extension that replaces your new tab with a to-do list. You can add or delete your to-dos without leaving your browser. I felt that an extension like this didn't exist for Firefox, so I decided to build it myself. It features a minimal and clean UI. I am open to feedback Link to code: https://github.com/mraza007/NewTab-Todo
