I've decided to bite the bullet and release Bitbox.co and get some feedback. I've been coding for years and one of the things I constantly see companies do is write and rewrite a document storage system, so I decided to write one for them. Bitbox.co uses cloud storage (currently Azure) to store documents but can be coded to use any cloud service. Documents can be public or private and URLs to that document can be used directly in HTML. There are currently a list of WebAPIs for developers to use as a tool, or build an entire system around. This is an MVP and it's simple. Upload a file, get a…

http://picirus.com For Startup Weekend Tulsa, we created a small low-power appliance (built on Raspberry Pi) that you connect to your different cloud accounts -- Facebook, Flickr, Dropbox, etc. -- and it downloads a copy of all your stuff every night. I was thinking about all the people I love who share directly to the cloud, without a lot of planning for the case where their Facebook account gets hacked, their Dropbox account has a glitch, or one of these services they love goes out of business suddenly some day. We had a ton of fun building Picirus during Startup Weekend. I highly…

I wanted to play my Steam games but my aging PC couldn’t keep up, so I built Cloudy Pad - a tool to run Steam in the Cloud (GitHub: https://github.com/PierreBeucher/cloudypad) It runs on AWS, Azure, GCP, Scaleway and Paperspace with various cost optimizations and safeties: - Cost alerts - Auto stop inactive instances to avoid unwanted cost - Disk snapshots and data cleanup for cost efficiency - Spot instance support Under the hood: a Linux VM and a container running Sunshine (a streaming server https://github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine) with Steam. Most…

Hi HN, I built a collection of 40+ PDF tools using Kimi k2.5 (with about $50 worth of credits) and a lot of “vibe coding”. The site: https://pdfuck.com (almost forgot I owned this domain ) What it does: 40+ PDF-related tools Completely free No downloads, everything runs in the browser All processing is done locally in your browser for better privacy It’s deployed on Cloudflare, so the running cost is basically close to zero. This started as a small experiment and slowly grew into a fairly complete PDF toolbox. I’d really appreciate feedback on performance, UX, and what tools you…

I made a simple site that allows you to upload files. It requires no sign up and 100% free. The biggest advantage is that it returns you the direct URL to your file. So you can use it to store images for MD-based forum posts. Or put in your site's . I use the Cloudflare R2 storage which offers zero egress fees. So I pay $0 of transfer costs. I added a simple anti-nsfw files check and a simple anti-malware check. Please do not try to break it. Thanks! (>‿◠)

Hey HN! The beta signup for Binocs just launched this morning at: https://www.getbinocs.com Have you ever had trouble finding one of your files—trying to remember the name or where you saved it? Binocs is your own personal search engine. Quickly search for your emails, files, and attachments across multiple cloud services and find results that Dropbox, Gmail and Drive normally miss. Head over to getbinocs.com to sign-up for an invite, and if you'd be willing to show us some love at Product Hunt, we just announced the beta there as well!…

I built it for myself because ngrok didn't let me add one more domain unless I paid $12 more. I probably should've looked for alternatives before building my own, but my grudge got in the way . Once I started, I wanted to make it better than the other options. Silly, I know. No one probably cares. I plan to open source it sometime next year because I’ve got other projects to finish first. It's free until I deplete my cloud credits, then it will switch to a tier-based model with a free option.

Hi HN, I previously wore SWE/SRE hats on GCP. Later, I was on the other side, managing thousands of machines. The friction points of onboarding and operating cloud systems are personal problems to me. I’ve found it hard to keep track of all the random cloud resources floating around, especially as my team’s assets proliferated. Occasionally, there is a resource affecting an outage but no one remembers where it is. I am constantly frustrated by existing tooling. APIs can work, after you’ve navigated the byzantine documentation, but I often find myself doing ad-hoc tasks which are best…
