Hi HN! Matrix-CRDT connects the worlds of Yjs [1] (a proven, high performance CRDT) with that of Matrix.org [2]. It started as an experiment, asking myself; can we store "state updates of a datastore" in Matrix instead of chat messages? Now, I'm convinced it's actually a really powerful combination to develop real-time, collaborative software. I'm using it for a new project and so far didn't have to write a backend yet. Matrix takes care of a lot of stuff: Authentication, E2EE, federation, hosting, etc. - so I can focus on the client. I love the ideas of Local First [3] software. Personally,…

This is an experimental extension for CRDTs, pg_crdt: GitHub repo[0]. It supports Yjs/Yrs and Automerge. The linked blog post [1] describes how we're thinking about this extension in a Supabase context. I want to emphasise this part: "pg_crdt has not been released onto the Supabase platform (and it may never be). We’re considering many options for offline-sync/support and, while CRDTs will undoubtedly factor in, we’re not sure if this is the right approach." Hi HN, Like many of you here, this is not my first time applying to YC. Each time, my co-founder and I would copy the YC application to google docs to collaborate on it, then we copy it back to submit. This got us thinking - why can't we just collaborate on the YC application in the YC application? At one point I went down the CRDT rabbit hole and realized collaborative forms would be a great use of CRDTs, so I decided to build this out to an MVP. If you're curious about CRDTs (Conflict-Free Replicated Data Types) and how they differ from OT (Operational transformation, which is what powers…

I've always been curious about real-time multiplayer user interfaces. When I found out about CRDTs and Yjs[1] I thought they could serve as a solid base for a project like that. So I built this pretty simple desktop-like UI (heavily inspired by lifeat.io) and used Yjs to replicate the whole UI state among multiple peers, creating the experience of a unique interface. This is a demo of a family of libraries intended to make it easy to build local-first, real-time applications for mobile, desktop and the web using CRDTs. It currently has support for using Sqlite, PostgreSQL or a plain old record store (Hive) as data storage backend. https://github.com/cachapa/crdt There's also a websocket sync layer that transparently handles the connection and delta changesets between participants. https://github.com/cachapa/crdt_sync

One year ago I started to explore combining CRDTs with end-to-end encryption to allow people to collaborate on the same documents/data. Couple months back I got a first prototype working. Think of a simple Google Docs, but end-to-end encrypted and offline-first (iOS & Android for now). Why CRDTs? Every document is a CRDT data structure. This is very important for conflict resolution. With CRDTs this can happen on the client and everyone can resolve to exactly the same state of the document once all the updates are synchronised. This basically allows to exchange the updates/data via…

Hi! I’m one of the founders of s2.dev, and recently have been hacking on opbox, which is an open-source daemon that turns directories of text files (code, markdown, etc) into collaborative, multi-player workspaces. This started as a bit of an intellectual curiosity, to see if it was possible to do real-time sync at the filesystem level (i.e., in an editor-agnostic way). The idea is pretty simple: - Opbox workspaces are roughly analogous to git repositories (and can be used alongside existing git repos, to share live changes between commits) - When the opbox daemon is running in a workspace…
