24 alternatives to D8A Academy
I have been working as a freelance data analyst for 9 years now, and everything is going well for me. Two years ago, I created a Discord community for data analysts and we are now 700+ members. Talking with the community made me realized how lucky I was to have a job and proper experience in data analysis because, god, it is hard right now to find a first job. So I decided to spend my free time building D8A academy. It's a roadmap of projects, which is what most people in the Discord were asking for. It helps you focus on what you really need to learn to do the day-to-day job, and helps you…

Hello HN crowd. I worked on this project on weekends and evenings. I'm excited I made it into a presentable MVP, and it is so satisfying. I would like to get some honest feedback from this great community. I made https://freeoptionscreener.com/, to scratch a personal itch. I myself trade options as a hobby, and I didn't find a screener that satisfies my need to be able to explore raw options data freely and without preset constraints. So I made this app that allows playing with options market data and extract interesting opportunities. The techs used: - Laravel + Jquery +…

Please check it out. I spent all of 2012 learning to code to launch what would eventually become Uncover. I'm super excited to announce that we're finally live. Here's a blog post I wrote on how we got there and a little story behind the startup: http://spencerfry.com/introducing-uncover

TLDR: I made a community where you can find builders or product owners to collab on sideprojects together with <3 A year ago i completed my first sideproject, a digital course on how to "cold email a chief information security officer". I thought and think its a great course, but of course I fell into all the traps (didnt verify a need, i thought id make it and everyone would buy automatically), i tested google ads but hated nerding on that, so i decided to find a marketing person to partner up with! But i knew no one! That got me thinking how many people with relevant knowledge that isnt…

Hello Hacker News! Exactly one year ago, I shared an article analyzing the skills most in demand for data analyst roles. Today, I’m excited to bring you the next evolution of that idea—scaled up to cover most IT fields. What did I create? A smart job aggregator: It filters job listings to show only those that match your unique skillset—no more endless scrolling. Live market insights: It analyzes current job trends to pinpoint the skills employers are looking for right now. Personalized skill growth recommendations: Based on your profile, it highlights the two specific skills that could most…

hey y'all -- can you please tell us if our job search tool sucks? :D we built it using an investor platform called Harmonic.ai to gather startup data, then contextualize it so that job seekers could find out about the most exciting startups hiring first (like if they just raised, growing headcount fast, have an ex-unicorn founder, etc). pretty sure we're the first platform doing anything like this. anyway, let me know what you think. really excited to launch this thing soon! getting feedback from the hn community first is really fun :)

Hi HN! I'm Matt, founder of Frontend Mentor (https://www.frontendmentor.io). We provide front-end and full-stack coding challenges with professional Figma designs, enabling developers to build real projects and grow their skills. The problem: AI coding tools are great, but they can work against you when you're learning. Ask Copilot or Cursor to help with a beginner project, and they'll happily write the whole thing for you. You ship the project, but you didn't really learn anything. What we did: We added AGENTS.md (and CLAUDE.md) files to every challenge's starter code. These files…

Excited to share a project I’ve been building for months! Would love to receive honest feedback :) My motivation: AI is clearly going to be the interface for data. But earlier attempts (text-to-SQL, etc.) fell short — they treated it like magic. The space has matured: teams now realize that AI + data needs structure, context, and rules. So I built a product to help teams deliver “chat with data” solutions fast with full control and observability (agent tracing, quality scores, etc) — am I wrong? The product allows you to connect any LLM to any data source with centralized context…

Built this because I kept needing a quick sprite sheet tool while working on side projects and everything either required a download or had a paywall. It runs fully in the browser, no upload to a server, no login. Supports: - Packer mode: upload separate frame PNGs, reorder them, export as atlas + JSON - Slicer mode: upload an existing sheet, define rows/columns, split into frames - JSON metadata compatible with Phaser, custom WebGL renderers etc. Works with Unity and Godot workflows too. Would love feedback on what's missing.

Hi there! I've been working with data in one form or another, professionally, for about 5 years. I've been thinking about my own personal data and how it's used for at least twice that long. I've been sort of building something in my head for a while that solves my own problem and, in the beginning of this year, I found the opportunity to spend some time building it out. I'll leave the detailed explanation to the blog post but, in short, I built what amounts to an API crawler combined with a data processor to help you download your personal data from 3rd party services and work with it using…

I built a live interactive map that shows where top AI companies hire around the world. I collected this data for a hackathon project. Many ATS providers have a public API that you can hit with the slug of the companies to get open jobs. The hardest part was finding the companies. I tried Firecrawl but it returned around 200 companies per provider which wasn’t enough for me. Then, I tried SERPAPI but it was expensive. I ended up using SearXNG to discover companies by ATS type and fetch their job postings. This produced a large dataset of 200k+ jobs (I only use a subset as it would have taken…

d8a.tech▲3Hi HN, I’m the founder of d8a.tech. After working in web/app analytics for 15+ years, I got frustrated with the limitations of the standard Google Analytics (GA4) BigQuery export—specifically the 24–48 hour latency and the nested schemas that make simple queries difficult. We built d8a.tech to be a transport layer. It intercepts GA4 events and streams them directly to your own warehouse. You can self-host it. Key technical points: - It has native drivers for BigQuery and ClickHouse for direct ingestion. - Data arrives in flat, query-ready tables. - There is no 48-hour export lag; data…

Hey HN, I’m Chris, a solo dev in Melbourne AU. For the past month I've been spending my after work hours building AgentVisa. I'm both excited (and admittedly nervous) to be sharing it with you all today. I've been spending a lot of time thinking about the future of AI agents and the more I experimented, the more I realized I was building on a fragile foundation. How do we build trust into these systems? How do we know what our agents are doing, and who gave them permission? My long-term vision is to give developers an "Agent Atlas" - a clear map of their agentic workforce, showing where…

It's called learnfrom.co, a platform for creating, hosting and selling online courses. I started building it because I wanted to solve a problem I had with existing course platforms. I kept running into things I wanted to change, so I started building them myself. The problem: I wasn't really a software engineer. Instead, I started using AI to build the product. I'd describe what I wanted, let it write the code, test it, fix things when they broke, and repeat. That somehow turned into a real product. LearnFrom is now used by 100+ creators and businesses, with real students and real payments…

I built a web page that aggregates data about data center buildup, sovereign fund investments into AI and bottlenecks. The objective is to predict AI race cooldown by looking at a potential decrease of activity involving these elements. The website looks at the quarterly forms from the 5 biggest hyperscalers and adds their CapEx into the mix, calculating a composite index in the end showing how likely it is for the AI race to slow down. Enjoy!

Hi HN, I'm excited to share Pandera, an open source framework for data testing, built for data scientists and ML engineers: https://www.union.ai/pandera I’ve been working with data and building models for a decade, and one of the biggest pain points for me is working with low-quality data. I got burned by incorrect data types and unexpected values so many times that I built a Pandera to help you safeguard your pipelines from silent data bugs. You can create schemas for your dataframe-like objects, which can be validated at run-time, in your unit tests via property-based…

Many people express that despite working hard, they don't feel like they are in the right career. Instead of getting adhoc advice from friends and family or requiring serendipitity/fortune in landing in a desirable career progression, I made a career planning tool which lets you upload a resume or public linkedin profile and see alternative career paths. You can play with your map, explore alternative trajectories, specify a goal, understand job titles, see job listings and more. I am looking to understand what, if any aspect of this tool is useful, and how I would proceed to build upon…
