I built Markdown Viewer because every Markdown app I found was either bloated (VS Code, Obsidian) or too bare-bones. Wanted something that loads instantly, renders Obsidian-style features cleanly, and weighs in at a few megabytes. Built with Tauri 2 (Rust backend + webview frontend): - GitHub Flavored Markdown + Obsidian extensions (wikilinks, callouts, emoji, math, Mermaid diagrams) - Frontmatter rendered as a structured metadata bar above content - HTML sanitization via ammonia for security - No heavy dependencies, no Electron What makes it interesting isn't so much the features — but how…

I read Markdown all day, mostly Claude .md, and other AI outputs. Every app I have tried felt janky or too much work to just read an md file. I just wanted to open a .md file and read it the way Preview opens a PDF. So I built Kite, a Markdown reader for Mac. It has QuickLook just like Preview and I have baked in features that help people reading lot's of AI markdowns. It one-time purchase, no subscription. I put it on TestFlight so you can try it before paying anything. I would really like this crowd to try to break it. Tell me which files render wrong, what feels off, what is missing.…

Hi HN! I'm proud to share that we've launched a free PDF-to-Markdown CLI built on our proprietary (you might know it from PSPDFKit) engine. Most extractors are either fast but lose structure (markitdown, pymupdf4llm) or accurate but slow (docling). Ours ties with docling on accuracy but is orders of magnitude faster. https://github.com/pspdfkit/pdf-to-markdown We'd love feedback on it, and ofc send us files that break it.

Hi HN, I built this because I was frustrated with existing Markdown-to-PDF converters. Most of them rely on HTML/CSS (puppeteer) which often messes up pagination and tables, or they require uploading data to a server (privacy concerns). MDXport is a purely client-side tool. The Stack: - Core: Typst (a modern LaTeX alternative) compiled to WebAssembly. - Privacy: Zero data leaves your browser. All rendering happens locally via WASM. - Feature: It handles page breaks and complex tables much better than standard CSS print drivers. I also added some heuristics to automatically fix common…

Hi HN, I built a macOS-native Markdown viewer/editor called Markdown Prism. Website: https://prism.huconn.xyz GitHub: https://github.com/hulryung/markdown-prism I originally built this for myself. I wanted a lightweight Markdown viewer on macOS that: wasn’t Electron-based rendered GFM properly supported LaTeX math and Mermaid diagrams worked fully offline Most native apps I tried were either minimal but missing key features (math, diagrams), or full-featured but Electron apps. I wanted something in between — native feel, but with the mature JS Markdown…

Hello, I'm Hyunbin. Recently I made 'Rune' which is a small desktop .md writer/editor. I am aware that there are a lot of .md editor out there. but i wanted to build .md editor by myself. Hi HN, I've just launched DocFlex, an offline macOS app that converts Markdown documents into over 30 formats like PDF, HTML, EPUB, LaTeX, and more. Why I built it: As someone who frequently works with Markdown, I found it cumbersome to convert documents into different formats, especially when dealing with multiple files. Online converters weren't ideal due to privacy concerns and the need for an internet connection. So, I created DocFlex to make the process seamless and entirely offline. Key Features: 100% Offline: All conversions happen locally on your machine. Your documents are never…
