One year ago I open-sourced my very first 'real' project and shared it here. I was a college student in my senior year and desperately looking for a job. At the time of sharing it i couldn't even afford a domain and naively let someone buy the one i had my eyes on lol. It's been a hell of a year with this blowing up, me moving to another country, and switching 2 jobs. In a year we somehow managed to hit 26k stars, grow a 1000+ person discord community, and support 37 languages. I couldn't be more grateful for the community that helped this grow, but now i don't know what direction to take…

Hey HN! We are Jonathan & Guy, and we are happy to share a project we’ve been working on. ChartDB is a tool to help developers and data analysts quickly visualize database schemas by generating ER diagrams with just one query. A unique feature of our product is AI-Powered export for easy migration. You can give it a try at https://chartdb.io and find the source code on GitHub. Next steps ---> More AI. We’d love feedback :)

Hello HN, I've just released a new migration tool for Go that mimics the functionality of Ruby on Rails migrations. It's designed to help Go developers manage database schema changes with ease. This allows you several benefits: - Write type-safe migrations - Auto down of migrations whenever it's possible - Easy backfill even with business logic because it's Go code - Painless integration with existing schema - sql.DB compatible and driver agnostic (it uses your driver) I have a pretty complete API to manage Postgres schema and I am working on the SQLite one (a little more complicated due to…

I’ve been working for a while on DBLift, an open-source database migration toolkit for Python teams. DBLift follows the same model flyway does with the same main commands and the same history table structure making it easy to switch from one to the other with the import_flyway command. By default DBLift is out of order meaning that any unapplied migration is eligible to be applied contrary to flyway which refuse to apply any migration with a lower version until you force it. You can still apply the original flyway model you can still opt-in with the —strict flag.…

Last year we launched ChartDB OSS (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44972238) - an open-source tool that generates ER diagrams from your database (via query/sql/dbml) without needing direct DB access. Now we’re launching the ChartDB Agent. It helps you design databases from scratch or make schema changes with natural language. You can: - Generate schemas by simply describing them in plain English - Brainstorm new tables, columns, and relationships with AI - Iterate visually in a diagram (ERD) - Deterministically export SQL script Try it out here -…

A bunch of developers and myself have created RepliByte - an open-source tool to seed a development database from a production database. Features: - Support data backup and restore for PostgreSQL, MySQL and MongoDB - Replace sensitive data with fake data - Works on large database (> 10GB) (read Design) - Database Subsetting: Scale down a production database to a more reasonable size - Start a local database with the prod data in a single command - On-the-fly data (de)compression (Zlib) - On-the-fly data de/encryption (AES-256) - Fully stateless (no server, no daemon) and lightweight…
