24 alternatives to Devthropology – Better Insights for GitHub Repos
Devthropology is a passion project built on top of GitHub pull data. The name is a play on developer anthropology. Pull request data can be cut a lot of ways. The functionality has been built out of curiosity as I want to see different insights into codebases that I work on. Some of the data is typical and other parts I haven't seen elsewhere. I think of this as an improved GitHub Insights page, with faster performance, more detail, and a focus on how work moves through a codebase. The main entity is a contributor, which has two sides: authoring PRs and reviewing/giving feedback to…
Devthropology analyzes GitHub pull request data to provide insights into how work moves through codebases. Built as an alternative to GitHub's native insights page, it offers faster performance and more granular detail… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes.

GitHired▲360Hey HN - today I’m launching GitHired. A hiring platform that ranks developers based on what they actually build — not what they claim on a PDF. It’s called GitHired, and here’s the core idea: GitHub > Resumes Instead of trusting “proficient in React” bullet points, we analyze a candidate’s actual GitHub: their real tech stack their most complex projects how active they are what kinds of contributions they make which skills match your job description and yes, we detect fake “green square farming.” Why we built this Because engineering hiring is broken. Resumes are inflated. Activity charts…

GitDiagram▲342GitDiagram is an open-source micro dev-tool that I made this past week Given any public GitHub repository it generates diagrams in Mermaid.js with Claude 3.5 Sonnet I extract information from the file tree and README for details and interactivity (you can click components to be taken to relevant files and directories) Also, you can replace "hub" with "diagram" in any repository URL to access its diagram I created this because I wanted to contribute to open-source projects but quickly realized their codebases are too massive for me to dig through manually, so this helps me get started I do…

I've always wanted a better way to explore the authorship data embedded in a Git commit log. I'm having fun building a CLI tool to do this. It's a bit like the "Contributors" tab on Github that shows you how many commits each contributor has made but much faster and with many more options. If you get a chance to try it out, please let me know. I'd love to hear feedback and suggestions. Thank you!

Hi HN! This is a little site I put together while learning the Elm language as part of a hackathon at my work, I thought you might enjoy it. Be sure to click the `(source)` buttons next to the graphs: you can edit them interactively & write your own queries against the entire data set. The syntax isn't well documented yet, but you can probably get the general idea pretty quickly based on the examples there. If you like it, have questions, etc. let me know! If folks think this is cool, maybe I can get it turned into a legit project. :)

Simon(sfarshid) and I spend a lot of time on GitHub. As data nerds we put together a quick tool to explore your repository’s data. How it works: - Data Loading: We use dlt to pull data (issues, PRs, commits, stars) from GitHub - Semantic Layer: Relta wraps the underlying dataset into a semantic layer so the LLM doesn’t hallucinate. - Text-to-SQL: A text-to-SQL agent transforms your plain-English question into a query using the semantic layer - Generative Charts: assistant-ui dynamically generates a chart based on the SQL query - Refinements: If the semantic layer can’t handle your question,…

Since everyone seems to be making a github application, I thought I'd share mine. It's an aggregated view of all of a given person's github projects, as well as easyish lookups for linkedin/stackoverflow/hackernews. It attempts to determine both productivity (how much code did this person write?) as well as impact (did anyone care?) I'd love any feedback, but go easy on the number of simultaneous searches as I'm trying to play nice by github's api limits. check it -- http://www.gitalytics.com

Hey HN After years working in software engineering and helping with hiring, I noticed a frustrating pattern: Companies often rely on résumés and LinkedIn titles to find developers instead of looking at what they've actually built. So I built GitMatcher. It analyzes GitHub profiles to surface developers based on: Their public repos Commit history Originality and usefulness of code Patterns that show consistency and real skill No keywords. No job titles. Just code. GitMatcher is useful if you're: - A recruiter tired of resume roulette - A founder looking for a technical co-founder - An OSS…
