24 alternatives to docLet
Hi HN, I built DocLet, a zero-knowledge cloud storage system where all encryption happens on the client and the server never receives the encryption key — not even an encrypted form of it. The goal is to give users full control over their data without relying on provider trust. A few technical differences from existing encrypted providers like Proton Drive: • Client-side key handling: Proton Drive encrypts files end-to-end, but the server still receives an encrypted version of the user’s key. In DocLet, the encryption key is generated and stays entirely on the user’s device. We never see it,…

I've decided to bite the bullet and release Bitbox.co and get some feedback. I've been coding for years and one of the things I constantly see companies do is write and rewrite a document storage system, so I decided to write one for them. Bitbox.co uses cloud storage (currently Azure) to store documents but can be coded to use any cloud service. Documents can be public or private and URLs to that document can be used directly in HTML. There are currently a list of WebAPIs for developers to use as a tool, or build an entire system around. This is an MVP and it's simple. Upload a file, get a…

How do you protect your digital assets? Do you store your personal notes, dog pictures, cat videos, music playlists, health records, bank statements, and government documents in the cloud, on your phone, a usb, hard-disk, solid-state, or network drive? Can your data be changed or deleted without your knowledge? S P A C E[1] is an open source project[2] combining End-to-End Encryption with Proof-of-Work Blockchains to…

Hi HN — I’m building Docpose.cloud (online file conversion + API). File processing is a trust problem, so I wrote a security + processing architecture page that explains exactly how files move through the system. Highlights: S3-only pipeline: workers read from object storage and write results back No permanent local disk persistence on workers Source files deleted immediately after processing Converted files expire after 24 hours by default Operational logs kept up to 30 days (metadata only, no file contents) I’m posting this because security questions come up every time someone evaluates…

I reposted, since i forgot the Show HN prefix. When I looked at self-hosted options, true E2EE turned out to be surprisingly rare. Most solutions rely on disk encryption, which only protects against physical theft, not server compromise or admin access. So I built Agam Space, my attempt at a self-hosted alternative to Mega or Proton Drive. It uses proper zero-knowledge encryption. Files are encrypted in the browser, and the server only stores encrypted blobs. Admins literally cannot access the files. It’s still in early beta, with very basic functionality and no professional security audit…
