TLDR, Let's Seal gives the finger to Adobe and every doc signing tool (docusign, google, etc) who pay to play with the Adobe Approved Trust List and then charge you for something that should be free. Currently even the person checking if a document/contract is sealed or code is authentic has to also be inside the same Adobe walled garden too. Verification, the part that should be free is the part everyone charges for. Thats the shape Let's Encrypt fixed for TLS, and I wanted the same thing for documents and files. The core idea therefore needed to go a bit beyond e signatures and i…

Hi HN, I built a small browser tool called Document Copy Planner to help people figure out how many copies of their important documents to keep, in what format, and where, all fully offline. Key features: Supports passports, IDs, contracts, receipts, tickets, and more Generates a primary, backup, and emergency copy plan Downloadable PDF or printable checklist Runs entirely in the browser — no accounts, no uploads, no tracking The motivation: most people store sensitive documents in cloud apps or email, which increases exposure risk. This tool gives a simple, actionable plan to keep copies…

I've just launched a new site that creates Trusted Timestamps. Anyone can use it to make any data immutable going forward in time. By "verifying" a Trusted Timestamp against a file, you certify that file has not been altered since the time the Trusted Timestamp was created at. Trusted Timestamps are not a new idea, there is a standard defined in RFC3161 and some other prior work as well. My design though is different as it is based on plain-text, human readable files. I believe this makes this form of Trusted Timestamp more accessible for a wider set of applications. I found the RFC3161…

Hi HN — I’m building Docpose.cloud (online file conversion + API). File processing is a trust problem, so I wrote a security + processing architecture page that explains exactly how files move through the system. Highlights: S3-only pipeline: workers read from object storage and write results back No permanent local disk persistence on workers Source files deleted immediately after processing Converted files expire after 24 hours by default Operational logs kept up to 30 days (metadata only, no file contents) I’m posting this because security questions come up every time someone evaluates…
