24 alternatives to Ecode – A minimalist and fast open-source code editor

Hi HN! I've been working on a code editor and I think that it's mature enough to catch some interest. It's using a custom GPU accelerated GUI written in C++. Currently implements some interesting features: LSP, terminal, auto-completion, linters, formatters, custom keybindings, plugins and more. It's a hobby project but still intends to be an alternative to other popular code editors like Sublime, Kate, Lapce, Lite XL (and takes inspiration from them). The project was born as a playground for the GUI I'm developing (eepp GUI) and is advanced enough to currently be my main code editor, but…

Ecode is an open-source code editor built with a custom GPU-accelerated GUI in C++. It offers standard development features including LSP support, an integrated terminal, auto-completion, linters, formatters, custom… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Ecode – A minimalist and fast open-source code editor launched in 2023; newer entries below may have overtaken it.

Hi HN! I’m Gabriel, and I’m happy to share a project I’ve been working on for the last few years: Flyde, an open-source visual programming language. Check out the interactive examples and online playground on the website: https://www.flyde.dev. In my last role as an engineering manager for a B2B-oriented product, I authored and reviewed many diagrams for backend applications, mostly for integrations between 2 third-party services. Some of these diagrams were elaborate enough that I started dreaming of a way to simply run a diagram as is; I imagined a “run” button on the top-right…

Hey everyone, for the past like six months I've been working on a portfolio project. I got tired of doing easy projects, so I decided to tackle something bigger and more challenging. That's when I came up with the idea of a video editor. This piece of work is intended to showcase my skills and land me a job, but I like to think when working on projects that my idea is so cool that people will like to use it, and I treat every project like a startup idea. Also I havent seen many open source video editors especially on web so that was one of the points why I decided to make that and not…

I made this because building UIs in a lexical medium like code is super annoying. I have to pre-render what I’m making in my head, and then jump between the browser and IDE to test. I was inspired by the developer console in chrome and safari since I end up editing css there because it’s ironically more convenient. Hope it’s useful!

Inspired by the design and UI/UX of apps like Notion, and utility of open-source apps like StackEdit, I decided to create a minimalistic, local-only WYSIWYG Markdown editor. Some features worth highlighting: - Monaco editor and Prettier integration for code snippets - Tables (apparently the holy grail of WYSIWYG editing) - Embeds (for CodePen, CodeSandbox and YouTube, most useful for HTML or JSON exports) - Accepts Markdown paste-in, and "exports"/generates HTML, Markdown and JSON outputs - Collaboration (with real-time awareness and initial commenting system, available only when…

Hey HN community! I'm one of the lead devs of this project at fal.ai and we created an open source lightweight video editor powered by the latest media AI models. The main goal was to tackle some challenges when dealing with complex media handling and encoding on the browser. It all started as an internal experiment but as we tackled some of the issues it was clear there could be some value sharing it with the open source community. Some of the key points and tech stack details: - It uses IndexedDb, so all data is local (i.e. no auth, no cloud db) - Multiple AI models for video, image, music…

Hey HN, I made a code editor which is inspired by Xi-editor. It's native GUI and GPU rendered written in Rust. A main feature is remote development support (VSCode like). Also other features like Vim-like modal editing, Tree-sitter for syntax highlighting, built-in LSP support and WASI based plugin system. I don't know Rust. Friday after work I realised that 90% of my IDE time now is just the commit/diff view — and even good IDEs feel heavy for that. So over the weekend I built a dedicated native tool for just that. Kyde is a macOS git commit + diff editor with one goal: be fast, do Git well. I'm curious whether anyone else mostly opens their IDE for git operations these days. It's open source, and there's a signed app in Releases.

Last week's post from Thariq "The Unreasonable Effectiveness of HTML" went viral in X. He made a good point about HTML being the more expressive and human friendly alternative to markdown files. I completely buy in where he's coming from, I've been asking Claude Code to create me HTML files to better understand what we're planning and building together. What Thariq didn't address was the part of sharing and collaborating on these HTML artifacts (he proposed uploading to S3). While I've been heavy user of HTML artifacts to share quarterly plans, implementation specs, technical guides and…

It is a fully agentic AI with tool calling built specifically for the CUDA toolkit This is the CLI version of RightNow AI code editor, our GPU-native code editor with a built-in emulator, visual profiling, and remote GPU access. The CLI is open source, lightweight, and fast. It is designed for anyone who wants AI help with CUDA without setup I used Python because it is the most common language, so anyone can build on top of…

Hi, HN. Gui, Lucis, and the deco.cx team here — we're a bunch of Brazilians building an open-source, all-in-one web editor for the modern TypeScript dev. Check out our GitHub at https://github.com/deco-cx/deco and discover more at our site https://deco.cx/. We built frontend tools at a hyper-growth e-commerce platform for 9 years. Deco.cx is the thing that we wish existed when we were managing hundreds of enterprise-grade React-based websites. The gist is: JSX, HTMX, TypeScript, Tailwind and Deno.
