My Downloads folder had been left unkept for a really long time and cleaning it up using Finder was quite cumbersome. So I started creating a simple app to help me filter out and delete or move the files in the folder. It started out very basic and the filtering options genuinely helped me clean out the Downloads folder, then as I thought of more features I would like to see in a file manager I started to add them. Some of the features are: - Fuzzy go to folder/file where you only need to write a few letters of a full path, get suggestions and can jump to the correct path instantly -…

GUI disk analyzers are great for figuring out what's filling up your laptop/desktop drive. On containers or remote servers, the options are limited to purely text based utilities (e.g. du) or list-centric TUIs (e.g. ncdu) which are usually limited to viewing one directory at a time. I created leaves to fill that gap. It's performant enough to handle millions of files, thanks to Rust and multi-threading.…

I wanted something fast, relatively lightweight, and install-free for Windows. I have been searched around the web for a while but couldn't find an equivalent, so I built Giant Log Viewer. Features: - It is an equivalent of the Linux' `less` pager tool for Windows, but works on Linux and macOS too - Opens multi-GB UTF-8 unstructured log/text files instantly (without loading everything into memory) - Navigates through…

After years of lurking on Hacker News, I figured it was time to finally contribute back. Fileloupe for Mac is a new Mac application that I've been working on for the last year. Version 1.0 was just released in the Mac App Store but Hacker News readers are welcome to download a beta version of 1.1 here: https://kennyc.s3.amazonaws.com/Fileloupe1.1-72-Beta.zip Fileloupe is a high-performance, incredibly fast file viewer that, I think, makes looking at photos, videos, PDFs and documents a lot better than the existing solutions. It doesn't replace Finder (or iPhoto /…
