I like to use DuckDuckGo-style bangs and snaps, they are fast and efficient shortcuts. However, neither Kagi nor DuckDuckGo resolves them as quickly as I would like and subjectively Google has better search results than DuckDuckGo. After trying a few local alternatives eg. unduck, unduckified, I wasn't satisfied, the ones I tried briefly loaded a page before redirecting causing visible page flickering, still took time to resolve the actual redirect and lacked advanced features (address-bar autocomplete). Flashbang avoids that by handling the redirect in a Service Worker, before the browser…

We just released a major upgrade to SigNoz with support for Logs management based on ClickHouse. Would love to get any feedback from the community here on what you think and any questions you may have for us Many big companies like Uber and Cloudflare have been shifting to ClickHouse as their main workhorse for Logs management seeing much better performance. for e.g Cloudflare recently shifted from Elastic to ClickHouse and are seeing 8x improvement in memory/cpu resource requirement in ingestion. This is our first release with Logs support and we have added support for: - Filtering…

I couldn't find any relevant info about this. Maybe I'm part of some new Chrome experiment, or just very bad at searching. Here's what it looks like: https://imgur.com/a/idXLYOJ I opened a new Chrome tab just now, typed GitHub in the address bar. Opened the top suggested repository I'm checking frequently, and then used the GitHub search input box. As GitHub search results loaded, on the right side of the Chrome address bar I noticed a new, and colorful G icon. Animating and distracting, the icon expanded into a pretty big inline notification saying "See more search…

Hey HN! Mike & Warren here from HyperDX (now part of ClickHouse)! We’ve been building ClickStack, an open source observability stack that helps you collect, centralize, search/viz/alert on your telemetry (logs, metrics, traces) in just a few minutes - all powered by ClickHouse (Apache2) for storage, HyperDX (MIT) for visualization and OpenTelemetry (Apache2) for ingestion. You can check out the quick start for spinning things up in the repo here: https://github.com/hyperdxio/hyperdx ClickStack makes it really easy to instrument your application so you can go…

I kept re-Googling the same flags, so I built a tiny, fast directory of copy-ready CLI commands. It’s static (vanilla JS), instant search, keyboard nav (↑/↓ + Enter), favorites (localStorage), and linkable queries. Examples: • grep errors → https://www.greppers.com/?q=grep%20error%20logs • list open ports (macOS) → https://www.greppers.com/?q=list%20open%20ports • show git branch graph → https://www.greppers.com/?q=git%20graph • tail with colors → https://www.greppers.com/?q=tail%20colors Tech notes: static site on Netlify, no…

Hi HN! I’ve been running GitHub Actions workflows for a while, and when GitHub announced the new ubuntu-slim runners as a cheaper alternative to ubuntu-latest, I wanted to migrate—but figuring out which workflows are safe to switch turned out to be surprisingly tedious. You need to check for Docker usage, services, containers, step failures due to missing packages, and whether jobs rely on tools not available in the slim image. So I built gh-slimify, a GitHub CLI extension that automates all of this. It scans your repository, detects which jobs can be migrated, flags incompatible patterns,…

Hey all- I just released a New tab replacement Chrome extension that makes browsing a lot easier - it also solves many of the annoyances with browser tabs. It's called Yellopages and it's free. Hope you'll give it a try. * Groups all tabs from same domain. Makes it simple to kill all your Gmail tabs in one click (or keep just one). * Groups all tabs playing audio. Toggle the sound for each one. * Single text search for open tabs, bookmarks, and browsing history. * Groups all tabs with new notifications (e.g. emails, likes, posts, replies, etc.) * One click to kill all tabs (e.g. you're…

Ghore is a simple cli tool to preview markdown files like they would appear on Github. It doesn't rely on Github's API and can be used completely offline. It also supports live preview of mermaid code blocks (Github's API doesn't process mermaid codeblocks).

While building an IoT telemetry solution, we ran into hurdles with Clickhouse. For one, you can't insert quickly AND durably into Clickhouse without setting up something like Kafka, which gets complicated for quick projects wanting to make use of Clickhouse's powerful features. Then, trying to actually query Clickhouse and show data in a UI required a whole backend API to handle auth and permissions. We figured that all these parts together – fast, durable ingest, row-level and column-level security and roles, and realtime streaming – were a lot of scaffolding to have to rebuild for every…
