Hey all, wanted to share my recent weekend hack project. I wanted to improve upon the existing space for looking up information about IP addresses and ASNs. The backend is written in Rust and pulls BGP data every 8 hours from the RIPE RIS project to build up a routing table and also adds geolocation information. The frontend is using React and Tailwind. Would love any feedback or suggestions on what to improve.

ServiceRadar is an open-source platform for distributed, secure network management and observability, scaling to 100k+ devices. Born from frustration with complex traditional NMS tools like Zabbix, it bridges legacy (SNMP/syslog) and modern (gNMI, OTLP) protocols for cloud-native environments. We built ServiceRadar to simplify monitoring hybrid telecom networks, evolving it into a Kubernetes-native solution with Helm and Docker support. It uses mTLS with SPIFFE/SPIRE, NATS JetStream for event streaming (90M+ EPS), and SRQL for intuitive queries. Integrated with OpenTelemetry,…

Hi HN - I’m the developer of PingStalker, a macOS utility I built to see what’s really happening on the LAN/WLAN. I live in the CLI, but when it came to discovery and monitoring, I found it limiting. So I built a GUI that brings my favorite tools together in one place. PingStalker started because I wanted to know if something on the network was scanning my machine. I also wanted quick access to core details—external IP, Wi-Fi data, and local topology. Then I wanted more: fast, reliable scans using ARP tables and ICMP. As a Wi-Fi engineer, I couldn’t stop there. I kept adding ways to…

Howdy HN! I find myself testing my ping from time to time, especially when my internet seems wonky while WFH. It feels like there should be an easier way test my ping than puling up a terminal or a complex web app - especially when I'm on my phone or any other device that doesn't have a terminal. I figured I should be the change I wish to see in the world and created this super light ping test. I also created a latency monitoring solution (https://github.com/cjjeakle/network-monitor), feel free to clone and try it out! I know there are a lot more mature monitoring…

I've frequently found myself using [nvitop](https://github.com/XuehaiPan/nvitop) to diagnose GPU/CPU contention issues. The two best things about it are: - It's easy to install if I can access pip in the container - It makes a compelling screenshot (which helps me communicate with coworkers.) With those two lessons in mind: Here is Sping! Purpose: Help observe and diagnose latency issues at layer 4+ (TCP/HTTP/HTTPS) Two good things about it: - It's easy to install if you have pip. Fluxer▲154Hey HN, and happy new year! I'm Hampus Kraft [1], a 22-year-old software developer nearing completion of my BSc in Computer Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. I've been working on Fluxer on and off for about 5 years, but recently decided to work on it full-time and see how far it could take me. Fluxer is an open source [2] communication platform for friends, groups, and communities (text, voice, and video). It aims for "modern chat app" feature coverage with a familiar UX, while being developed in the open and staying FOSS (AGPLv3). The codebase is largely written in…

dish is a lightweight, 0 dependency monitoring tool in the form of a small binary executable. Upon execution, it checks the provided sockets (which can be provided in a JSON file or served by a remote JSON API endpoint). The results of the check are then reported to the configured channels. It started as a learning project and ended up proving quite handy. Me and my friend have been using it to monitor our services for the last 3 years. We have refactored the codebase to be a bit more presentable recently and thought we'd share on here! The currently supported channels include: - Telegram -…
