In plain words
Recursive DNS Server Fingerprint is a tool that detects compromised open DNS resolvers by analyzing their response patterns to DNS queries. It uses data from RIPE Atlas to identify resolvers that have been hijacked for malicious purposes, such as redirecting users to harmful sites or censoring content. The tool helps improve internet safety by recognizing characteristic differences in how compromised servers respond compared to legitimate ones.

From the sources
Google and a few other companies provide open dns resolvers to the people around the globe. Unfortunately it may happen that the resolver was hijacked and used for different purposes, such as redirecting to malicious pages or to block certain addresses (censorship). Our goal is to identify hijacked resolvers by analyzing their fingerprints, in order to increase safety of Internet users. To do that, we utilize data collected via RIPE Atlas (atlas.ripe.net). Our solution to the problem is based on observing characteristic features in replies to DNS queries. A hijacked server will likely run different software than the legitimate server, thus it should be possible to spot some small…from recdnsfp.github.io

My goal was to create a DNS server as simple as the LDAP server I've been contributing to (glauth) and here it is: https://github.com/fusion/kittendns A few things to know about it: - It is easy to configure using a Toml file - I am using it to bail my coredns/etcd instances when under attack - (yes, it also works as a service location server) - It comes with a simple, plain English, rule engine that doesn't do much at this point - It can be used with LetsEncrypt. I use it to retrieve certificates for my home servers. - RFC: all the nice ones :) Anyway, feedback is…
