24 alternatives to FocusMode

I’m the solo developer of Focusmo, a macOS focus app. I just shipped v7.12, which adds a local MCP server for Claude. The goal is simple: instead of generic productivity advice, Claude can connect to real focus data and help with weekly reviews, planning, and pattern spotting. Right now Claude can access: - today’s stats - weekly trends - task list - app usage with an hourly heatmap - personal records - live session state It can also create tasks and mark tasks complete. Everything runs locally on Mac through MCP, so the data stays on-device. I wrote more about it here:…

Hi HN Dudley here, tech lead on Chunk. Chunk is a macOS menu bar app for time-blocking. It opens with Cmd + / and slides down over whatever you're doing - including fullscreen apps. There's also a live countdown in the tray for the current block. Click-and-drag to create blocks, day/week views, Google/Outlook/Apple Calendar sync, Apple Reminders integration, and a Todo mode where tasks can be dragged onto the timeline. Templates and Routines let you build an ideal day once and auto-apply it on chosen weekdays. There's a local MCP server, so you can ask Claude Desktop to…

I kept hitting Claude's 5-hour limit without realizing it, so I made this menu bar app to track it. Shows a color-coded ring (green/orange/red) and countdown to reset. Built it in Swift/SwiftUI, just for myself initially. Right now you have to manually grab your sessionKey from browser DevTools, which is annoying but works. Stores it in macOS Keychain so it's secure. Been actively working on it, already at v1.3.0 with much better UX now. It's open source (MIT) and works with all Claude platforms (web/CLI/desktop/mobile) since they share the quota. Currently…

Every MCP tool call dumps raw data into Claude Code's 200K context window. A Playwright snapshot costs 56 KB, 20 GitHub issues cost 59 KB. After 30 minutes, 40% of your context is gone. I built an MCP server that sits between Claude Code and these outputs. It processes them in sandboxes and only returns summaries. 315 KB becomes 5.4 KB. It supports 10 language runtimes, SQLite FTS5 with BM25 ranking for search, and batch execution. Session time before slowdown goes from ~30 min to ~3 hours. I built runCLAUDErun because I got tired of manually running the same Claude Code tasks every day. It's free and it runs locally. What it does: It's a macOS app that schedules your local Claude Code to run on any schedule you want - daily, weekly, or custom cron expressions. My use case: Every night at 11pm, it automatically summarizes my Obsidian daily notes. But, it can schedule any Claude task - code reviews, data processing, report generation, web research, file organization, etc... Technical details: - Native macOS app (Electron + React) - Uses launchd for scheduling (proper macOS…

Focal is a pomodoro web app. I know there's a lot of productivity apps already, but I'm releasing this since I figure someone might find it useful. Focal was more of a short, 3 day project so it may be rough around the edges, but I think it does the job. In any case, Focal is open source and I would be happy to merge contributions. Here's the github repository: https://github.com/aabiji/focal Have a nice day!
