Hello Hacker News! My name is Anonyo, and I am a seventeen-year-old from Southeast Michigan. This is wallstreetlocal, my passion project for the last year (and a half). I've posted this before, but I've finally open-sourced this entire project, so I thought I'd post it again. Heres the short pitch. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) keeps record of every company in the United States. Companies whose holdings surpass $100 million though, are required to file a special type of form: the 13F form. This form, filed quarterly, discloses the filer's holdings, providing transparency into…

When I bought my home, the big bank I'd been using for years quoted me 7% APR. A local credit union was offering 5.5% for the exact same mortgage. I was surprised until I learned that mortgages are basically standardized products – the government buys almost all of them (see Bits About Money: https://www.bitsaboutmoney.com/archive/mortgages-are-a-manuf...). So what's the price difference paying for? A recent Bloomberg Odd Lots episode makes the case that it's largely advertising and marketing…

(* within a few minutes of SEC filing) Currently does it for 1000+ US companies and specifically earnings related filings. By US companies, I mean the ones that are obliged to file SEC filings. This was the result of almost a year long effort and hundreds of prototypes :) It currently auto-publishes for 1000 ish US companies by market cap, relies on 8-K filing as a trigger. e.g. https://www.signalbloom.ai/news/NVDA will take you to NVDA earnings Would be grateful to get some feedback. Especially if you follow a company, check its reports out. Thank you! Some examples:…

My main motivation was that I wanted to be able to drill down and filter across all the available stocks, look at the data for myself, and narrow down on the stocks I am interested based on my own sets of criteria, and make data-driven analysis for my personal investment strategies. I used PostgreSQL as the backend database for ELT data pipelines, and used Citus Data cstore_fdw for columnar compression for the final dataset. All financial data is coming from SEC Edgar, https://www.sec.gov/developer. I used Python for downloading most of the data. I also run the data load…

Hi HN — I'm Jett, a solo founder operating across US/China/global markets. I built Global Solo because I kept running into the same problem: as a solo founder with income from multiple countries, an LLC in one jurisdiction, and time spent in another — I had no idea what my actual structural risk looked like. My CPA handled US filing, but nobody was mapping the full picture across entity structure, tax residency, banking, and documentation. So I built a diagnostic tool that does exactly that. *What it is:* A structured risk assessment across 4 dimensions — Money, Entity, Tax, and…

I've been working on this the last few days after seeing a post on reddit calling for this exact website to exist. I'm hoping the email-less/account-less and open data might be appealing. I'd love any feedback you might have, and of course if you were to volunteer some data ;) I'm aware it looks bad on mobile atm.

I was with BOFA and Chase Private Client for years before I realized that they were making tons of interest off my money and just keeping it for themselves. The funny thing is that since I had a lot of money with them they raised my rate as a thank you to wait for it 0.02% instead of 0.01% lol. Got upset because of this and made this site. It scrapes all the banks every 30 minutes so it is the most real time source of APY data on the internet. Rates are now over 3% at the high end so it makes sense to park your money in these places rather than the big three banks.

I lead design on a B2B SaaS product. It's quite data-heavy in places. Using placeholder content in data tables, checkout summaries and dashboards is a big no-no for us. It might seem like using random numbers saves time at first, but sooner or later there's documentation to write and plenty of clarifications to be made. It throws off customers during interviews – "hey, that's not really my sales target!". It confuses stakeholders at review time– "what's this data point supposed to be?" I built a Figma calculator plugin for my team so that they spend less time doing mental maths. It…

With the current down markets, we were wondering what private company valuations looked like when compared to similar public companies. We were inspired by the a16z article (https://future.com/framework-valuation-navigating-down-marke...) for calculating valuations and figured out the sales-to-valuation ratio of public companies at the time of the last fundraising round and applied the change in the public market to get the current startup valuation. If things don’t look right, our defaults might be off - please feel free to change those if they’re too different from what…
