Products that do what Free .io Availability Checker does
Someone is selling a list of available three, four, and five letter .io domains that are available for $20. This - https://gist.github.com/4111298 - generates a list of available .io domains of any length (user specified). And, its free. (I'm away from my computer, so it isn't tested, but I ran it in repl.it). Edit - this is the seller - http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4804627

I tend to use AI to brainstorm domain names, but I kept wasting time pasting each idea into Namecheap to see if they were available. So I built DotComBuddy - it generates ideas (using DeepSeek V3 - switched from GPT-4o after realizing quality was just as good) and checks availability in real time via Name.com’s API. Built with Next.js and Vercel’s AI SDK, the app gives you a table of available domains with their price. 10 free searches to try it out, then $9/year (what I’d pay to never do this manually again). Sharing this for anyone else tired of switching tabs to check domains. Happy…

Hello HN, About a month ago, I posted an "Ask HN" to see if there was any interest in having daily available .com domain name lists. The names would all be appropriate for startups, blogs and websites, nothing else. While the response wasn't overwhelming, it was quite positive and a few individuals got me motivated to go through with this. I decided to go with the free newsletter format so I could keep some form of exclusivity for the subscribers, giving them a better chance at getting a name they before somebody else gets to it. You can find the old discussion here:…

Hi HN! We've been having fun building a cool domain name generator and we'd like you to try it out. We're also releasing a bunch of available domain names ideas that our product generated in what we call "freebie sessions". The link above points to our first freebie session, where every few seconds a batch of available domain names will be released. Hi all! I had a little bit of time on my hands so I decided to put together https://www.GetParked.io, a domain backordering service. It allows you to search for a domain name, and backorder it if it's currently registered by someone else. GetParked will then try to acquire the domain for you when it expires. It costs nothing, except for if it actually is able to secure the domain for you, and is of course free to simply check the status and registration info of any domain name. I built it because as someone who enjoys building websites, I've always had trouble getting the domain…

We've been hard at work creating a new domain registrar and now we want some feedback to help us figure out where to go from here! The first 100 users to signup using this URL will get 1 free domain Credit: https://www.badger.com/#register/hackernews --- Please please please give us feedback! --- P.S. We only support .com and .net at the moment but we'll be adding about a dozen more extensions in the next couple of weeks.

Every now and then I see these posts where people post the domains they purchased for XYZ side project that is clearly not happening. But considering how difficult it can be to find a good name, its always nice to see what people are willing to part with. Post your domains!

Hi HN, I built DomainExplorer.io, a search and analytics tool that lets you explore newly registered and expired domains across all TLDs — updated daily. The idea came from my frustration how hard it is to search for registered/expired domains. I wanted a simple and easy-to-use tool with web UI where you could submit queries like: - Find all domains in .com and .net zones that end with "chatgpt". - Find all expired domains that have "copilot" substring in name (excluding .ai and .io zones) and their name is shorter than 12 symbols - Find all domains with "amazon" in name and that were…

I built it for myself because ngrok didn't let me add one more domain unless I paid $12 more. I probably should've looked for alternatives before building my own, but my grudge got in the way . Once I started, I wanted to make it better than the other options. Silly, I know. No one probably cares. I plan to open source it sometime next year because I’ve got other projects to finish first. It's free until I deplete my cloud credits, then it will switch to a tier-based model with a free option.
