24 alternatives to Friendware
Hey HN, I built Friendware because I wanted autocomplete that works everywhere on my Mac, not just in code editors. In any text field it can draft replies, rewrite text, and write prompts for AI tools; it uses on-screen context to adjust based on what you’re doing. My goal was making it feel native and not require workflow changes, so it stays accessible across apps by living in the notch. Currently working on better voice learning and a memory system, would love feedback on what to prioritize!

Caret▲211We've been heads-down building this for a few weeks and want real feedback before we open it up. Caret runs in the background and completes your thoughts across every app: email, terminal, notes, wherever. Hit Tab and it finishes the sentence. We're onboarding the first users ourselves, one by one. So if you're interested, one of the three of us will get on a call with you to set you up and understand how you work. Looking for 20 people.

I released ContextChat, an AI chat designed to be context-centric, helping you stay focused and productive by giving you control over the information your AI sees. You can import websites, files, and public/private GitHub repos to give the AI full knowledge of your projects. Unlike other chatbots, ContextChat lets you easily switch between project contexts, so you get relevant answers and avoid the noise. It's pay-per-use, giving you flexibility and control over costs and free models are available so you can try it for free with no monthly subscriptions. Let me know your feedback!

CodeWords▲385Hey HN, Aymeric here, co-founder of Agemo and maker of CodeWords. Generating nice-looking UIs with AI has been democratized now thanks to tools like Lovable, v0 and bolt. Going from natural language to a complex back-end workflow is still an unsolved problem. We started our journey by researching neurosymbolic methods applied to software/code generation problems and it landed us a feature in the ARC-AGI report last year (https://arxiv.org/abs/2412.04604). We've now applied this research to build an AI-native workflow automation platform to enable builders of any…

Hi, I'm a high school teacher from Australia and I've built what I'd like to think is a pretty nifty ChatGPT powered presentation tool for teachers. I'd love it if you could have a look at it and give me some of your feedback. I don't think there's much overlap with the HN crowd and school teachers, but I've been coming here for many years and thought I'd post here and see what you all think. Check it out if you have a minute and I'd be super happy to hear your feedback too. https://www.slidehero.ai/ You can jump in and have a play with the tool all you like ;) Cheers, Eli

XBeast▲228A few weeks ago I realized i was spending way too much time trying to write quality posts for Twitter. So I decided to look into scheduling tools which could help me automate my writing. I tried a few, but none of them satisfied me. Either the interface was way too complicated or the features i wanted were just not there. Finally, after some time I gave up… and instead I decided to just do it! I hacked up a quick prototype in a weekend. Tried it out - it worked!! Mostly.. I fixed some bugs, made a nice UI, and now (3 weeks later) I think I built one of the nicest scheduling tools out there.

AI Playground▲159Finding notes fast is still hard. You can organize with tags, PARA, or backlinks, but searching always feels slow and frustrating. That’s why I built ConniePad - native app on macOS & iOS. It works offline and lets you capture notes quickly anywhere. It has a comprehensive editor and local speech-to-text on iOS, so you can jot down ideas even without internet. But capturing notes is only half the story. What about finding what you need? ConniePad uses AI search. You can type queries like you would in Google or ChatGPT. It understands similar words, wrong typos, and abbreviations, so you get…

Browser Buddy▲156Hey HN, thank you for being a part of the internet we love. We’re Arnav, Mo, Jeremy and we’re building an “Internet for-you page” that recommends blogs and essays based on your interests. Try it here (https://www.browserbuddy.com/)! We love to discover and learn from personal blogs, essays, and articles on the internet. But despite exciting advancements in language modeling, it’s felt harder to discover interesting links from real people. We believe there is untapped potential to use these language models as “curators” rather than “creators”. To explore this, we’re building a…

PAI▲9Hi HN! I've been spending the past month on PAI, a Linux-esque harness for a personal assistant AI for your Mac. Instead of giving a chatbot a bunch of tools, I wanted to just drop the LLM into a terminal and see how it'd fare. I've been using it to manage my calendar, 5+ email accounts, and engaging with / responding to people in a timely manner (casus belli for this entire project). After seeing how other always-on assistants were designed, I thought the Unix / Linux philosophy of system design could be applied to AI harnesses, and I wanted to experiment with how it'd hold up…

I'm a Machine Learning engineer. Struggled with consistency for months on my goals, life etc, so I built something to help myself (zropi.com) but that surprised me or shocked me literally. It’s an AI companion that feels alive: chats like a person. Pauses, emotions, personality. Sends voice notes when it's excited about something or whenever it wants (has its like own mind). Shares photos of itself. But the memory It remembers EVERYTHING. Not just facts context, preferences, random things I mentioned. Last week I asked "how's that thing I told you about going?" and it knew exactly what I…

Hi HN, I'm the developer behind MyRephra. To be honest, I built this tool for myself, born from a deep frustration with the current state of AI writing assistants. Like many of you, I live in my text editors, word pages, and web forms. I found that despite the boom in built-in AI, they were actively fighting my workflow: * The Constant Context Switching: The biggest flow-killer. Why should I have to highlight, copy, open, find the tab, paste, click a button, wait, then copy and paste back? It's a dozen steps for one thought. * The Black Box Problem: Where is my text going? Is it being…

Hey Hacker News, my name is Vlad: https://twitter.com/Fortune_VY We’ve been working on IDEs AI assistants for a few years https://www.machinet.net/. Yeah, years :) before chatGPT came along. We have learned a lot about AI models, and how the autoregressive nature coupled with the inability to switch an abstraction level throws a wrench in the works of a possible truly autonomous AI assistant, even OpenAI has featured us on their blog. The more we tinkered with the assistant problem for IDEs, the more we realized the gap between our dream assistant and chatGPT is…

Hi HN, I'm a solo developer learning to code, and I'd love to share my second real project: MapMyLearn, an AI-powered app that automatically generates personalized learning paths based on any topic you input. What it does: Takes a topic (e.g. "history of capitalism", "learn Rust", or "data storytelling") Uses AI to break it down into a structured course with modules and submodules Each submodule includes: - Detailed, pedagogical content (developed based on online sources to mitigate hallucinations) - A quiz of 10 questions - Recommended resources - An AI chatbot for Q&A - Optional audio…

Hi HN, I'm the solo founder of PageZero (https://pagezero.ai), an interactive learning platform where you can learn real-world skills through 15-minute AI-powered lessons - no videos, no fluff. Each course has less than 20 structured prompts, like game levels. You type your answers, and an AI tutor gives you instant feedback. I was frustrated with passive online courses and built this over nights and weekends. So far, 170+ users have tried it, and I've been refining the learning engine based on real user feedback. Happy to answer questions or receive any feedback (especially…

Hi HN, I'm thrilled to share with you think, a command-line tool that I developed while diving back into the programming scene. For the past few years, my focus had shifted from hands-on programming to managerial roles, my last one being at Affirm (I started Affirm's Polish office). However, I recently left my job to revisit my passion for coding and see if I could still write code that works. Not to mention that with what is currently going on in AI if you are a developer this probably the best possible time for a sabbatical in human history :) My first attempt was with LangChain, but I…

Asterode▲11I built Asterode to make AI more productive on the go. It focuses on continuity: switching models mid conversation, branching chats, a global memory layer, and keeping useful context without constantly starting over. IT's available on Android and iOS. I’d really appreciate thoughtful feedback.

Hey HN, I built a tool to solve my biggest LLM workflow frustration: context switching. The idea came from trying to meta-prompt in Cursor, I found myself constantly jumping to a browser or dedicated AI app just to improve a prompt. This copy/paste/tweak cycle was a huge productivity killer. I wanted AI to integrate seamlessly into my workflow, not disrupt it. That's why I built Promptive. It's a native macOS app that lets you select any text, in any application, and run a custom LLM prompt on it with a global keyboard shortcut or right-click and select the action in the…

AI Buddy▲4This is a weekend project I created due to my frustration with the classic terminal applications that have the issue that if I restart my Mac, then my Claude Code instances or my shell instances—are stopped, and I have to manually run them again. Plus, they are not quite optimized for running multiple Claude Code instances, so I created this project to address this issue.

So I've been obsessed with a weird question for the past 6 months, what happens to SEO when everyone starts asking ChatGPT for recommendations instead of Googling? The answer, apparently, is chaos. And maybe opportunity? I built FirstClick because I noticed something strange. My previous startup was getting zero traffic from AI assistants, but our competitor (objectively worse product, sorry not sorry) was getting mentioned by Claude and Perplexity constantly. It drove me crazy. So I reverse engineered why. Turns out there's a whole new game being played and most founders don't even know it…
