24 alternatives to Go Micro – A distributed systems development framework

I can't tell if HN is the right kind of place for this stuff anymore since people are so advanced in their use but I thought it was interesting to leverage my existing Go microservices framework and turn it into the core of what would provide tools for an agent cli or whatever beyond that. Extensibility is key. Thought I'd share and get a conversation going.

Go Micro is a distributed systems development framework launched in 2020 for developers building microservices applications. It provides tools and libraries for creating, deploying, and managing distributed systems in… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Hi all, I wanted to reshare this after some time. I've been working on evolving my service framework into an agent harness. As all of this AI tooling has evolved its become clear to me that agents, services and workflows are part of a core system of operations which would benefit from a single framework. Previously Go Micro only enabled service development. But now it includes Agents and Workflows. What does that mean? Well firstly services which are registered in a central registry automatically become tools for agents. The service endpoints individually become callable tools via MCP.…

Hey all, Just reposting after about a year since the last time I shared. Micro is a platform for API development. It combines a lot of the core primitives you'd expect from a cloud platform as a single logical server. The closest equivalent is Dapr.io. It bakes in the concept of environments, source to running builds and a framework for Go development. It's useful where you want to write backend services in Go and expose them through a single API (also included in Micro). We once wrote about "Netlify for the frontend, Micro for the backend"…

I'm relatively new to Go, but recently got interested in how MCP servers work. I started thinking about what the architecture of such a project might look like, and decided to build a minimalist version as an experiment. I based it on my past experience writing regular REST API servers and figured it might be useful or interesting to others as well.

Hi HN! During the last few years, I worked on a few applications built with Go, running on AWS Lambda. As I got to know the platform better, I started to find Go & Lambda to be a really productive combination. The applications were fast, and they ended up being much cheaper to run than what my team & I had built before. It’s probably not the best platform for _every_ application, but I was surprised at how much of our workload worked well on it. As we brought new engineers on to our team and helped them get up to speed with the stack, I found that we were covering a lot of the same topics…
