Products that do what Gryt – self-hosted, open-source Discord-style voice chat does

This weekend I finally shipped Gryt, a project I’ve been building since 2022 — an open-source, self-hostable Discord-style app focused on reliable voice chat + text. I’m the creator. I started it after getting fed up with Discord disconnects/paywalls and wanted something self-hosted and auditable. I started on this in 2022 and had an early proof-of-concept working back then (auth + friends list), but I quickly realized WebRTC voice isn’t something you can duct-tape together. I spent a big chunk of the next couple years learning the stack (ICE/DTLS-SRTP, NAT traversal, SFU design),…

This is something fun I’ve been hacking on recently: ridiculously simple group chat. Go to http://faces.io and then get your friends to do the same. That’s it! :-D Currently works best in Chrome. It’s definitely beta status at best. Audio can get weird—be ready to mute. ;-) Let me know what you think!

Hi HN, For years I’ve missed the feeling of an always-on chatroom without the silos and social overhead of Discord. So I built Together: a single-room, no-signup group chat that you join with one click. No channels, no rules (yet), no onboarding flow. Everyone lands in the same place and can start talking in under a second. Why I made it - Forums and blog comments are great but slow; Discord/Slack feel heavy for casual drop-ins if you aren’t already a member of a community. - I wanted the simplest possible space where ~100 people could idle, share shower thoughts, and keep the…

I created a pet project to see if it is of use and interesting to people. The idea is on-demand real-time chat rooms for trending topics and for personal use. You can go to the main page at www.urshoutbox.com to create your own room then share it across your social networks/email, etc. I created a hacker news specific "shoutbox" at http://www.urshoutbox.com/bLmYAL/hacker-news . If nobody is in there, please be patient and (I hope) people will join soon to start talking. The idea is to have trending topics on facebook/twitter/etc and have chat rooms to get…

Hi friends! I've been waiting for ChatGPT Code Interpreter access for so long that I decided to just build my own. I figured maybe some of you are in the same boat so decided to do it as an Open Source project.

Hi HN! I built this bot that allows you to chat with your technical documentation! It’s been pretty nifty so far on our Discord help forums, and it’s open-source so I figured I would share! Cheers.

We have been using GPT to write code since playground days. This UI avoids logins, gpt-4 throttling and is also cheaper to use than ChatGPT Premium. We also have various features to minimize costs and speed up iteration. Furthermore html & mermaid previews are a taste of the kind of features help-yourself opensource model enables vs official UI. Hey everyone, ChatGPT recently added a very small but powerful feature - the ability to share your chats! I think it’s a great way to create prototypes and share them, here are a couple of examples: First, [a small talk simulator](https://chat.openai.com/share/1329d8ec-5141-45f9-a2c2-842d4bad7bcc) a game to help you improve your social skills. Second, [a shark tank simulator](https://chat.openai.com/share/48155efe-101b-4662-b41e-c13aa909f017), see if your idea and pitch can get a deal on ABCs hit show! [Here’s my…

I'm building an AI platform, FlowChai and found a neat use case for it today that I thought would be useful to HN readers. I use GPT4 heavily for writing / editing code, but a major downside is that it doesn't know about new projects. I made the connection today that I could upload the zip file of a Github repo to FlowChai and then write prompts just like with ChatGPT with code questions. While the original intent for this platform is more around natural language, it's neat how this works so well. It's powered underneath by pgvector and OpenAI embeddings.

Hey everyone on HN! We recently spent the past couple of weeks building out an end-to-end platform which can plug-in multiple models (both open/closed-source) to create voice driven conversational applications. We've tried to make the process simple & concise through documentation. Feel free to try it out and provide feedback. We will be launching a dashboard in the coming week for monitoring and analytics alongwith more open source models. Let us know what you all think. (if you want to contribute, we have tons of features planned - do let us know)

Please have a look at www.socialeaks.com and tell me what you think. This is my first adventure in coding (my background is not CS). I started learning rails about a month ago via railstutorial.org. When I finished that, I felt the best way to continue learning would be to just build an app from scratch. I came up with this concept while observing how crazy the world had gone over WikiLeaks. I thought this was a funny idea. I also thought it would be fun to build! So, here I am. I built this in rails 3 and it is currently living on Heroku. It took me about two weeks to code, doing just about…

Hello everyone! I have a hobby project that has become fairly full featured that I figured I would share. The idea of MinimalChat has been to create a project that is a lightweight and dead simple application that can be deployed locally in a few seconds (with docker). While of course also having most of the nice to have features and looking pretty nice. A nice bonus is it a Progressive Web Application so it can be installed like a normal application to your mobile device. It has a full mobile UI. For those using Chrome and Edge you can also locally download, load and host entirely via your…

I was tired of paying monthly subscriptions for all my AI tools and I wanted to pay just for what I use so I combined the AI chats I use to create my own chat - MyChat (pun intended) MyChat is an all-in-one chat bot that has a pay-as-you-go business model. The tech stack I used was NextJS, TypeScript, MongoDB, Clerk, TailwindCSS, ShadCN, Stripe, the OpenAI API hosted on Hostinger with Coolify. The code base is currently around 3500 lines of code. (About 500 of them are redundant code) The web app itself is not complicated the only complex thing in it is the math that's mapping the different…

Hey guys, I am think of building an open-source version of Perplexity to let devs play around with it. But with all the existing tools available what features would you want? Anything specific? What is missing? Currently working on - 1. Streaming text 2. Citations sources 3. Image and file upload 4. Chat history and storage 5. Temperature and custom instructions If you are in marketing or growth can anyone help me with what to focus on while building such an app? Also here is a very first version. Probably will break and most of the buttons also don’t work, built it in 3 days using Bing and…

Hi guys, For my startup at www.mithrin.ai which is about create AI Chatbot Agents for websites, I wanted to create some free tools to attract traffic to the site and decided to create specialized chatbots powered by LLMs, similar to OpenAI's Custom GPTs. I realized that by using gpt-4o-mini, I could create quite powerful alternatives to GPTs that are free to the public for a very small cost (given how cheap the model api cost is). I've employed some throttling to prevent abuse and to avoid being charged too much. Then I integrated this with my main service and allowed users to use the…
