Hi HN! I've been working on Bor, an open-source system for centralized Linux desktop management. Bor consists of a lightweight Go agent and a central server. Policies are streamed to clients over mTLS/gRPC in real time—no polling—and currently support Firefox, Chrome, KDE, dconf, polkit and package management, with more coming. Version 0.8 introduces several new policy types - Thunderbird, Microsoft Edge for Business and FirewallD zones, along with a number of improvements and fixes. I'd love feedback on the architecture, policy model, and whether this is something you'd consider for…

Hey everyone! I’m working on Telescope - an open-source web-based log viewer designed to make working with logs stored in ClickHouse easier and more intuitive. I wasn’t happy with existing log viewers - most of them force a specific log format, are tied to ingestion pipelines, or are just a small part of a larger platform. Others didn’t display logs the way I wanted. So I decided to build my own lightweight, flexible log viewer - one that actually fits my needs. Check it out: Video demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IItMOXwugY GitHub:…

I’ve been dealing with huge log files lately, several GBs in size, and got frustrated with common tools such as Notepad++ freezing and crashing a server with limited RAM. I wanted something fast, relatively lightweight, and install-free for Windows. I have been searched around the web for a while but couldn't find an equivalent, so I built Giant Log Viewer. Features: - It is an equivalent of the Linux' `less` pager tool for Windows, but works on Linux and macOS too - Opens multi-GB UTF-8 unstructured log/text files instantly (without loading everything into memory) - Navigates through…

We're open-sourcing Sighthound today, our rules-based static security scanner. What makes it special is that it's coded in rust and uses tree-sitter as it's AST making it very fast and easily extensible. Why build another scanner in 2026? We wanted to improve some of our detection outcomes but noticed the current open source scanners like Semgrep/Opengrep we're capped by a bunch of adoption limitations such as being written in OCaml, requiring a lot of work to add a language parser, and the rulesets were licensed differently and required paid offerings. It also felt that licensing was…
