Products that do what How to Read a Dosa Menu does

I love dosa, but have a hard time remembbering what all of the terms mean and how they fit together. "Mysore masala paper roast" is just a stack of independent choices: batter, texture, a smear, a filling, and the word dosa. So I built a little tool that treats every dosa name as a formula. You build an order and see what would arrive, or tap a real menu item and watch its formula light up. I tried to (with Claude's help, obv.) cover naming conventions from Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad. And, full disclosure, I'm an outsider to this cuisine who just loves food, so there's every…

I am happy to announce the updated release of my web app, 7courses. http://7courses.com/ 7courses makes it ridiculously easy to jot down and manage your collection of recipes. As someone who cooks, I often find recipes online or in cookbooks, but have no way to organize them. I have been looking for a digital "recipe box". After plenty of searching I just made my own. 7courses was built around the idea that you should be able to choose how you want to organize your recipes, and doing so should be easy and quick. The UI is responsive and intuitive, with a no frills design. Just jump right in…

Hi HN ! I made a web app to check if an item on the menu is potentially spicy ? Problem: I recently arrived in Korea, and I quickly realized that if my girlfriend is not with me, I don't know what would try to kill my tastebuds. I could ask, but I'm shy and my broken korean wouldn't help much. And trying to find an answer online is time consuming, navigating between 10 paragraphs blogs. Solution: So i made this simple gpt wrapper that takes in a dish name in any language, and gives you a clear answer right away. Keep in mind that this is my first app and an mvp, to validate the idea. But I'm…

I brew coffee and I buy a lot of beans. I’m also a lazy person that doesn’t want to type in all the details in one of the available apps and track things to the grams. Luckily I found out that GPT-4o (free tier) is good enough to take a few photos I uploaded of a bag and parse it’s roaster, varietal, origin, tasting notes, roast date, etc. I tried with a dozen different bags and it works pretty well - even when it makes mistakes I can correct them with natural language conversation, which I enjoyed. Then I had to figure out storage. I don’t want to rely on the chat history / context as…

I read "The Flavor Bible" and was inspired to make an app that adapted its ingredient recommendations as you built your recipe. The result is my app for android/iphone. The iphone link is below(made it free for today) and the android app is called "food flavor pairings"

Hey Everyone! This is my first post on Hacker News, and I wanted to share my project with you! From a young age, I dreamed of becoming a chef, but life took me down the path of software engineering instead. Nevertheless, my passion for creating delicious meals has always remained close to my heart. This journey led me to seek out recipes to enhance my cooking skills, but I often found myself frustrated by the websites I encountered—ads everywhere, walls of text, and recipes that were difficult to follow. That’s where PurePlates comes in. PurePlates allows users to share a recipe through…

Hello everyone, I created a EasyCook app, this app will generate food recipes based on your ingredients. The idea is not to waste food, and if you have left some ingredients in the Kitchen, you can write it down in app and get a recipe based on these ingredients. The app is free to use, however have more features available for paid users. Would be thankful for feedback, so I can improve the app more!

Hey HN! I've just launched CookThis, my new app that helps fight food waste by using up leftover ingredients. It uses ML in a couple of ways to aid this, both by using a CNN to detect ingredients from a camera feed, and by using an LLM to generate new recipes. Would be great to get some feedback! There's a week free trial available with no commitment
