Coffee Beans Tracker with OCR Inventory Management on GPT
I brew coffee and I buy a lot of beans. I’m also a lazy person that doesn’t want to type in all the details in one of the available apps and track things to the grams. Luckily I found out that GPT-4o (free tier) is good enough to take a few photos I uploaded of a bag and parse it’s roaster, varietal, origin, tasting notes, roast date, etc. I tried with a dozen different bags and it works pretty well - even when it makes mistakes I can correct them with natural language conversation, which I enjoyed. Then I had to figure out storage. I don’t want to rely on the chat history / context as…

We're two coffee nerds who built an AI app to track beans and recipes2025 · beanbook.app · ▲60It’s available on iOS now: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id6499280064 We got into specialty coffee during COVID and, like many others, fell deep down the rabbit hole. Along the way, we ran into the same frustrations: - A drawer full of empty coffee bags. - No simple way to track grind size, rest dates, notes—by bean. - My coffee history scattered across photos, screenshots, notebooks, and half-memories. - The unique traits, people, and stories behind each coffee disappearing from the internet once it sold out (since coffee is an agricultural good) - In our opinion, no…
Brew Great CoffeeDec 2025 · brewgreat.coffee · ▲142Hi HN! I've been deep in the specialty coffee rabbit hole for a few years and built this tool to help me dial in espresso and pourover more systematically. *What it does:* • Extraction Compass – click where your shot lands (sour/bitter × weak/strong), get diagnosis and adjustments. It factors in your bean's origin, processing method, roast level, and variety. • Pourover recipes from Hoffmann, Rao, Hedrick, Kasuya (4:6) with step-by-step timer. Water amounts auto-calculate based on your dose. • Interactive WCR Flavor Wheel based on the World Coffee Research Sensory Lexicon 2.0.…

Hey there HN! We’re Joe and Stopa, and today we’re open sourcing InstantDB, a client-side database that makes it easy to build real-time and collaborative apps like Notion and Figma. Building modern apps these days involves a lot of schleps. For a basic CRUD app you need to spin up servers, wire up endpoints, integrate auth, add permissions, and then marshal data from the backend to the frontend and back again. If you want to deliver a buttery smooth user experience, you’ll need to add optimistic updates and rollbacks. We do these steps over and over for every feature we build, which can…
