As a specialty coffee professional, I’m constantly looking for tools that complement both the precision and passion behind what we do. BeanBook completely exceeded my expectations. From the moment I opened the app, I was impressed by its intuitive interface and delightful design language. The use of coffee-inspired visual metaphors is not just charming, it makes the experience feel tailored for people who truly love the craft. It’s clear that the creators understand both great UX and great specialty coffee.Functionally, the app strikes that rare balance: powerful yet simple. It helps me track beans, brew methods, roasts, and tasting notes with ease, and joy. It has become an integral part of…from apps.apple.com

It’s available on iOS now: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id6499280064 We got into specialty coffee during COVID and, like many others, fell deep down the rabbit hole. Along the way, we ran into the same frustrations: - A drawer full of empty coffee bags. - No simple way to track grind size, rest dates, notes—by bean. - My coffee history scattered across photos, screenshots, notebooks, and half-memories. - The unique traits, people, and stories behind each coffee disappearing from the internet once it sold out (since coffee is an agricultural good) - In our opinion, no…

I built a pour-over coffee tracker that logs your brews, visualizes extraction, and uses AI to suggest your next move. Made it to help myself dial in new beans more methodically - technically it can work with Espresso as well, but I haven't really tested it. Based on my experience, the AI is helpful for identifying direction, but not great with specifics. For example, I often make larger adjustments when dialing in - if I’d normally grind 3 clicks finer on my Comandante, the AI suggests just 1 click or a 1°C temp change. I’m still fine-tuning the prompts, but I think it’s promising for those…

Hey HN! Pilots everywhere are required to keep a logbook of all their flying hours, aircraft, airports, and so on. Since I track everything digitally (some people still just use paper logbooks!), I put together some data visualizations and a few 3D globes to show my flying history. This globe is probably my favourite so far: https://jameshard.ing/pilot/globes/all If you’ve got ideas for other graphs or ways to show this kind of data, I’d love to hear them!

  • I was the main contributor to workout.lol, an open-source fitness app to easily build a workout routine. The project had traction (1.4k GitHub stars, 95 forks, ~20K visits/month), but was eventually sold due to video licensing hurdles. The new owner stopped maintaining it, and the repo went abandoned. Over the next 9 months, I sent 15 emails to try to save it : no replies. Feature requests & issues were ignored. The community was left with a "broken" tool let's say. I couldn't just let it die So I built the new version from scratch with the same open-source spirit, but a better…
