Hey HN, I am a student shipping apps in my free time. This is my 4th for the year! Non-fic books and podcasts have been part of my life for years now but I always struggled with remembering what I’ve read or listened to. I wanted it to stick even after years. My notes list grew large but I never really revisited them. That’s why I created GinkgoNotes. You can enter notes you want to recall and leave it to the app to create a personalised (based on spaced repetition) email schedule. Hi HN, I watch A LOT of educational YouTube videos but wasn't forgetting a good chunk of the details because I was only really passively watching. So I made a tool that generates quiz questions/flashcards from YouTube videos, and uses spaced repetition like Anki or Duolingo to keep it in memory. I've been working on Recall for a while now, it had some initial traction in the beginning which has since died down now. I am facing the inevitable question of whether to continue with the project. I've been working on this tool that lets you build a personal knowledge graph from articles, blog posts, podcasts, YouTube videos, and other content you find interesting online. You can safely forget everything and trust that Recall will resurface it when something new that is related comes up. Looking forward to your thoughts and feedback on how it could be improved! Hey hacker news, I've worked on a note/wiki app nights and weekends for almost two years. While still missing some essentials and polish, I'm happy with the progress and some of my use cases: personal CRM, work notes, and a place to write/record funny things my kid says. The app started as my wishful thinking that flashcards should really be derived from notes. I've been constantly writing things down and wishing to remember them. However, I never could convince myself to populate a flashcard app with them. I really tried (Anki, Supermemo), but I guess regular form filling is not for me. So I've started experimenting with flashcards derived from structured notes. Writing the 1st MVP was fast, but productionising it was way harder. Owl is built a spaced repetition app. We built it for ourselves mostly because we were unhappy with Anki from a UX perspective, and are now releasing it to everybody else. It is super tiny, but - we think - also pretty good. You can add your own decks manually, or generate them from a PDF (think academic papers, which is how I use that feature) or a prompt. There are no emails except study reminders (when there are cards to study). You can also use our "AI tutor" to review cards conversationally. Looking forward to your feedback!
