Products that do what I made a 'Useless' GPT-4 plugin – Is it that useless? does
Hey HN! I've been experimenting with GPT-4 and ended up creating a plugin that, at first glance, might seem utterly 'useless'. It's called Pulsetic, and its sole function is to check a website's availability worldwide. Now, you might be thinking, "Why on earth would I need that?" Here's how it works: 1. Visit the GPT-4 plugins store. 2. Search for Pulsetic: Once you're in the plugins store, look for "Pulsetic". When you find it, go ahead and install it. 3. Check a website's availability: After you've installed and activated Pulsetic, you can start checking website availability. Just input…

Pulsefeed has been developed on and off in my spare time over the last 4 months, I'm finally happy with it's basic set of features, and was wondering what the Hacker News community thought? Thanks :)

Hey HN, After GPT-3 created waves in the tech industry, a lot of AI tools were emerging and with that, some AI website builders But the results seemed way too generic to us. It felt like the developers were rushing to catch the wave instead of building a proper tool We took our time, did months of RnD and finally came up with something better than what others in the market are doing. It’s got better design output. While it’s still in beta, I wanted to show HN what we did. Will appreciate the feedback when you guys try it out. Here is the link to signup for the beta:…

Hi guys, For my startup at www.mithrin.ai which is about create AI Chatbot Agents for websites, I wanted to create some free tools to attract traffic to the site and decided to create specialized chatbots powered by LLMs, similar to OpenAI's Custom GPTs. I realized that by using gpt-4o-mini, I could create quite powerful alternatives to GPTs that are free to the public for a very small cost (given how cheap the model api cost is). I've employed some throttling to prevent abuse and to avoid being charged too much. Then I integrated this with my main service and allowed users to use the…

Hi HN, I'm Chun Rapeepat. Last week I started playing with GPT-4 and tried different ways to use it to optimize my dev workflow. It was fun, and I was just blown away by what GPT-4 can do. The idea of CodePrompt first came to mind when I read "Show HN: GPT Repo Loader – load entire code repos into GPT prompts" [1]. It was precisely what I wanted to do! So I tried it. The GPT Repo Loader works pretty well on a small codebase; However, due to its limitations in loading all files and content into the prompt, I still ran into token context limit issues and needed to copy/edit the code…

I built PulseTimer because I wanted a clean, distraction-free work/break timer that actually lets me tweak session lengths, break intervals, and notifications without requiring an account or tracking anything. Features: – Customizable work sessions & break durations – Optional notifications with sound – Skip break button when needed – Session history and progress tracking – Fully local, no accounts or tracking – Self-hostable (Node + Express) Live demo: https://timer.toxi360.org Source: https://github.com/Efeckc17/PulseTimer Would love any feedback,…

Easily collect all transcriptions from a YouTube channel to create your own custom GPT (via OpenAI) or querying a large context window (Claude 2.1) The example is “CY GPT” your very own Sichael Miebel and Calton Daldwell in your pocket. I have a backlog of open-source projects, hope this helps!! This is counter intuitive (as I’m posting this) but please respect the creators copyright and use for research purposes only

A few months ago, i was looking for a simple uptime monitor service to monitor my websites, but i wanted some extra features that i couldn't find anywhere. These aren't wild features, but oddly enough couldn't find a service that was easy to setup, cheap, and that could do simple uptime mointoring for databases (sql & mongodb), docker containers, rabbitmq queues and os memory/cpu. It's only when i was almost done that i realized uptime monitoring services had become something of mania in the indiehacker/solopreneur world. Anyways, hoping it can provide value to some of you.…

I built IncidentPulse after the classic "Slack-on-fire, status-page-outdated" outage chaos. It's a clean, self-hosted tool to track incidents, responders, and updates. Live Demo: https://incident-pulse.vercel.app GitHub: https://github.com/bhoyee/IncidentPulse I'm at a crossroads and would love your blunt feedback on one question: What's the ONE feature that would make you actually switch from your current process (be it PagerDuty, a messy Slack channel, or nothing) to a tool like this? Other things I'd love thoughts on: Is the webhook setup (with HMAC,…

When new Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) are released, there is excitement as we explore new capabilities. What can a model do? What can't a model do? What strange behaviors does the model exhibit? With that said, such analyses are frozen in time. At a hackathon toward the end of last year, the Roboflow team made a tool that runs the same set of tests with the GPT-4 with Vision API every day. This allows people to see how the model performs over time as updates are made. The last seven days of results are displayed on a web page; the rest of the data is archived in GitHub. We started the site…

We have been using GPT to write code since playground days. This UI avoids logins, gpt-4 throttling and is also cheaper to use than ChatGPT Premium. We also have various features to minimize costs and speed up iteration. Furthermore html & mermaid previews are a taste of the kind of features help-yourself opensource model enables vs official UI. For backstory see our blog posts: https://blog.humphd.org/chatcraft-org/ https://taras.glek.net/post/chatcraft.org-opensourcechatgpt-...

I brew coffee and I buy a lot of beans. I’m also a lazy person that doesn’t want to type in all the details in one of the available apps and track things to the grams. Luckily I found out that GPT-4o (free tier) is good enough to take a few photos I uploaded of a bag and parse it’s roaster, varietal, origin, tasting notes, roast date, etc. I tried with a dozen different bags and it works pretty well - even when it makes mistakes I can correct them with natural language conversation, which I enjoyed. Then I had to figure out storage. I don’t want to rely on the chat history / context as…

I've never used .NET, know nothing about .NET or vb, or anything outside vc++ & MFC. Recently I gave GPT a try, guiding it step by step, and asking it to help me rebuild a tool I originally wrote in MFC. To my surprise, it worked: a full Excel-to-PDF automation app, done in 30 minutes; including a small algorithm I thought would be too tricky for AI to handle. I didn't understand even a single line of the code, I just kept asking, copying, and running. It felt amazing… but also terrifying. If AI can do this now, what happens 5 years from now? Here's a 5-min video I made showing the full…

I took the time to prompt engineer a custom GPT to give very concise answers. It is very fast, and works quite well! I've been using it many times a day since I put it together.

Hi hackers, long time reader, first time "real" submitter. This is by no means a revolutionary idea, or even execution, but rather something I've always wanted to do, just to see if I could write a good implementation of it. So without further adieu: http://ca.pitali.st/ Yes, it's just an URL shortener. Please check out the API and if there anything you like about it, please share, so I can take this feedback with me to my future projects. If there's something you REALLY hate, that's feedback too. Don't be afraid to hurt my feelings; this was put together in less than 4 hours to see if I…

Hey HN, I wanted to build something real in Zig, and I was annoyed that Postman needed an account and an internet connection just to send a GET request. So I figured I'd make something I would actually use. It kind of snowballed from there. 50,000+ lines later, it does requests, test assertions, collections, environments, CI/CD reports, import/export, and has a browser-based Web UI (`volt ui`). All in a single binary with zero external dependencies. Some numbers: - Binary size: ~4 MB (Postman: ~500 MB) - Startup: 42ms (Postman: 3-8 seconds) - RAM idle: ~5 MB (Postman: 300-800 MB) -…

I have had a few conversations in the past year with non-technical folks (traditional finance types, consultants) who asked for a simple explainer on how GPTs work. These people generally have the horsepower to grasp new concepts quickly but don't necessarily have the math background to dig in super deeply and want a stronger framework than "they predict words". I had generally been pointing them to Karpathy, Illustrated Transformer, and other youtube content but I figured something more hands on without the math requirement might be better at explaining questions like "why matrix…

Hi HN! I wanted to share my freshly finished open-source project. It is similar to ChatGPT Code Interpreter, but the interpreter runs locally and it can use open-source models like Llama 2. It allows you to work with sensitive data without uploading it to the cloud. Either you use a local LLM (like Llama 2), or an API (like GPT-4). For the latter case, there is an approval mechanism in the UI, which separates your local data from the remote services. I would be very interested in your valuable feedback!
