Products that do what I made an explanation party game in Electric Clojure does
ExplainGame (explaingame.com) is a mobile-friendly party game that runs in the browser. The goal of the game is to get your teammates to say the words on your card before the timer runs out, using only word association clues. For example, if you get a term like “Michael Schumacher,” you can say “F1 driver, Ferrari, ski accident” but not “Michael” or “Schumacher.” You can think of it as charades or Pictionary, but instead of acting or drawing, you have to use your words. ExplainGame is a clone of a popular board game in South Africa called 30 Seconds, or Articulate in the UK. It is meant to…

This is the first iteration of a short game I’m making that tries to interactively explain some of my favorite math questions / ideas. My goal is mostly to get the player curious and not necessarily to explain absolutely everything. There were a lot of fun technical parts to building this: - For implementation reasons, it’s much easier if the lines all have integer intersection points with each other. To do this, when a new line is added I “cheat” by rounding intersections to integers and then splitting the old lines at the intersection into new linds (with potentially different slopes)…

hey all! just in time for the friends&family gatherings, friend and collaborator Nolen from eieio[0] and I just launched Talk Paper Scissors i.e. rock paper scissors over the telephone! with strangers! Nolen goes into a lot of technical detail on his blog[1] ... including how we had to implement a weird "ping pong" hack to make Twilio behave less unpredictably around weird telephony states. turns out that phone/web/API games are cool little hard async problems! we had to mutex stuff! feel free to ask questions/leave comments here -- and wishing everyone happy holidays!!…

Hey there! I'm the brains behind the math crossword game on my site. This game is all about making math a little more fun – users just drag and drop numbers to fill in the blanks and move on to the next level if they get it right. Let me know if face any issues or have any suggestions! :)

Wordbots is a long-running side project I've been working on on-and-off for the past ~7 years that I finally feel comfortable enough with to share with the HN community. It's an online tactical card game (inspired by games like Hearthstone and Magic: the Gathering), where players write their own cards in natural language, that gets parsed down to JavaScript. The English-to-JavaScript translation is handled by a semantic parser operating on a hand-crafted CCG grammar – kind of an “old-school” approach in this age of LLMs but one that performs quite well on the very constrained language of…

Hi HN, I have been working on this website for a few weeks with some buddies of mine and would love if you checked it out. TuringJest provides a jackbox-esque experience with its two game modes. *One Shot Prompt* - Submit a prompt for all players (including the AI) to answer. - Answer your prompts in the way that you think ChatGPT would answer them. - Vote for who you think the real AI is. *Talk It Out* - Plan an event in a group chat with your friends. - Trick everyone into thinking you are the AI while voting for the real AI. Let me know what you think!

Hi hn - I co-own a diner where I co-host a puzzle night that is kind of like a diner-themed escape room. At the last one, I made a puzzle that was crossword-like clues nested in brackets. People at the diner seemed to like it, so I resolved to make it a real game and Bracket City was born: https://bracket.city. I love crosswords, so it's been fun to write crossword-like clues: [it contains MSG] as well as clues that would not make it into a crossword: [___ hard place] I write all the puzzles and post a new one at midnight ET every day of the week. Still working on a lot of…

Hi everyone, Wanted to share a game I built. It's called Unscramble! and I believe it's the simplest word building game. Rules: You get a few letters on screen. You need to make one word with all the letters. Tap a letter to select. Tap again to deselect. Faster you go, better you score. If you enter anagrams of the word it's looking for, it gives you extra points. If you are stuck, you can either "Ask Friend" or get Hint. You get extra points for getting the word fast but you don't get penalized for taking too long. I believe the simplicity of the game along with big touch buttons makes it…

I posted a version of this over a year ago but decided to rebuild it recently. Bored Spreadsheet is a collection of quick and easy games that look like a spreadsheet from a distance. I have tightened the app to be a collection of 6 games: Minesweeper, 2048, solitaire, sudoku, a market trading game and a daily reconciliation puzzle where the player must find bad data in a fake table. The games are free to play but sign up is required to submit your scores to the leaderboard. As was the original intention over a year ago, I hope this proves useful to those office workers who have a lot of…
