Products that do what I've created a site about Bone Marrow Donation does

Hi HN,<p>I've posted a couple times here before (mostly within posts pertaining to Amit Gupta's search for a bone marrow donor) and I wanted to share a site I've been working on for the past 5 months or so that recently went live. I'm going on my fifth year of being an Acute Myelogenous Leukemia survivor, and while I didn't need a bone marrow transplant myself at one point it was a very real possibility. At that time I became aware of the lack of minority bone marrow donors and made a promise to myself to try to do something about it if I were to survive. This site is something of a…

I don't normally do this but after submitting this through the usual mechanism and having it quickly vanish off the New list, I figured it was worth a shot. * I do not have any affiliation with this site * These guys need and deserve our support. The work they are doing is pretty outstanding, the amount of quality content is incredible. The site itself is well designed, clean and top-notch. The content is truly outstanding. They are also doing it right, IMO - aka no ads at all - and entirely donation driven. Hence this post... check them out, and hopefully toss them a dollar if you find it…

Hi HN! I started working in Cancer Research at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center 4.5 years ago in March 2018. If you thought programming and computers were complex, WAIT until you start trying to wrap your head around cancer. We're talking Orders of Magnitude more complexity. I know it might seem outrageous that a lowly CSV file will help in the quest to build a cure, but I truly believe it might. I think what seems like miracles always comes down to grunt data collection, with a few moments of key insights. Anyway, the site will launch November 1st. Please give it a star and a share…

http://giving.github.com A few weeks back, from a conversation around helping make the world a truly better place, we started a site where charities, organizations and those trying to make the world better could ask us programmers for help. The site is hard to establish as those doing meaningful work and in need of our help are sadly unaware of the programming community and spirit. But it has started to attract some requests - issues in github-mapping - that will hopefully propel it forward and serve to raise awareness with the good causes! So go get over there and help code something…

Hi everyone, I am organizing a crowdfunding campaign to give blankets/food/books/glasses and new year's postcards to 1000 homeless people in San Francisco. Since we as the residents already spend a lot of money on the homelessness issue in SF via government(200MM+/year), I thought some of us would be willing to take a more active role in fixing this issue by donating to campaigns like this one(and to more sustainable ones). So, I am thinking of turning this campaign into a crowdfunding platform for activists and organizations that want to work on homelessness related…

http://cheergram.com Hey there everyone. I have been reading HN a bit here sans there but haven't ever submitted/commented before. (I am a stay at home mom) Anyway I had this idea a while back and had my husband help me build it. I tried to do most of the designs, though some are stock vectors. Anyway I'd love your feedback on anything that will help this business grow. Thanks so much.

Hi HN, I’d like to share MediSearch with you. A few months ago, I had a knee injury and got several surgery options from doctors. I had to make an important decision, but the medical information search experience was terrible. The sites I found either did not answer my questions (long health blogs) or were too technical to easily understand (scientific papers). This gave me and my friend the idea for MediSearch. Our goal is to build a system that provides direct accurate answers to medical questions based on trustworthy sources. We’d like to make MediSearch helpful to everyone and we still…

https://ilovethatshirt.com I want to hear some feedback on why we might not be getting the conversions expected. We launched using a WordPress setup just to limit our risk on development (e.g. produce an MVP), so I would hope that is not the feedback (but if it is, so be it). Please be brutal as normal :) If we suck, we need to hear it. Thanks!

After a weekend of coding, last night I launched a very early-version MVP of Coders Who Care. - The goal of the site is to connect nonprofits with developers willing to donate time to a good cause. Right now, it's simply a directory, but in the future I'll be adding more tools for devs and organizations, including ways for charities to post projects and tools to notify developers when a project is posted that matches their interests, etc. I'll also introduce some social components, like recommendations/endorsements, and I have plans for eventually adding a software distribution system that…

Hey HN, My co-founders and I have been working on a project for the last month or so, and we'd like to get your input on it. We wanted to hear your thoughts on what we're doing - so check out our landing page, and let us know what you think/understand. Does it sounds like something you guys would want to use? http://www.thesharedweb.com/alpha/intro We'll tell you guys more about exactly what we're doing as the conversation evolves, but we just wanted to see what the initial reaction is, and what you understand (i.e. are we describing it in a way that makes sense). Really excited to hear your…

Hi HN, This one's a twofer. First, I'm showing off my personal site and blog, garrettgoss.com [1]. I'm looking to make a career change — from biomedical engineering/biomedical research, to research and development engineering in the consumer product development/additive manufacturing space — and felt that my prior work experience inadequately reflected my true interests and skills, which are better exemplified by my side projects. I put this together for myself, to better document my own work, for the broader internet, to share some of the projects I've developed to those who might…

Hi HN, I ve been in this community for a while now and have a huge amount of respect for the people and the forum so I wanted to post this here. This is a pretty random one and I wish to emphasise from the very beginning this is not medical advice and is only based on what I saw in myself. It is therefore entirely up to anyone kind enough to have a read to decide whether they think what I describe makes any sense for them. If people have comments or thoughts I think it would be quite cool to use the GitHub issues as a forum for discussion and collecting peoples’ feedback. TLDR When I was…

Hi, I spent the last couple of months developing OurClubFundraiser(http://www.ourclubfundraiser.com) and launched it about two weeks ago.I would love to get some feedback from the HN community on how I could improve the site and tweak the concept. Since launching I have found that: 1) I am not getting enough visits(Average around 5 a day) 2) Any of the visits I do get are not converting. I am working on 1) and will hopefully be able to dramatically increase the number of visits over the next few weeks. I could really do with some third party perspectives on point 2. 1)Is the concept not…

Hello all, I built about 2 years ago a coding website for kids, teens and adults: https://codeguppy.com Despite my efforts to promote the website it is still not well know. I post almost daily about it on Twitter at https://twitter.com/codeguppy ... but even there I don't have views. The website is fun... although I still have a ton of things to add. I appreciate if you take a look and suggest improvements and most importantly help me with spreading the news about this website. I really need a boost! Thanks all!

The idea of creating this site came to me when I was thinking of gifts to get family and friends for Christmas after a very exhausting work week. Getting Christmas gifts or gifts in general can be time consuming and mind draining if you are the type of person that likes to give thoughtful gifts and does not like to repeat gifts. I decided to compile data of key points like gender, age group, hobbies, favorite things, favorite sports etc of the person receiving the gift, so as to suggest several gifts the receiver is most likely to love. Since I wanted to share this with others that might…

I created Curenote, a social way for people to get help with their health problems. Others who may have experienced the same health problem can offer their knowledge and advice on what they did to cure their ailment or illness. People can offer their advice and support on topics such as cancer/diabetes, sexual health, drugs & alcohol, violence, diet & fitness and many more. Please let me know what you think. Your honest feedback is much appreciated. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I doubt this would be relevant to the kind of person who uses HN, but I thought I could share for some feedback. I built this site because there is a whole world of people who believe in new age spirituality and I am very much one of them. It is a site where you get the users gender their goals and their images and use AI and psychology to generate images of them in the process of achieving their goals. I am so deeply struggling with how to get this highly on Google. I don't even know if that is important anymore. What are your suggestions with distribution and getting in…

Early this week I offered to donate 8 hours to any project that needed some design help. There were a few candidates and thanks to everyone that emailed me and posted in the comments. I decided to lend my time to Simple Invoices, an open source invoicing system. You can see the result here: http://jasonstrachan.com/clients/simpleinvoices/ And the original site here: http://simpleinvoices.org/ Comments and feedback welcome.

I've been frustrated by so many blogging platforms. Last I used Ghost. I thought it was expensive and I hated that www I had to prefix on custom domain. So, I built https://lykhari.com just for myself and then opened for public. If you want something simple do try. It became profitable and hence self sustaining!

I saw a tiktok the other day where it said there should be a website where wealthy individuals, unsure of how to spend their money, can fulfill the wishes of poor people. They could compete with other wealthy donors on a global leaderboard based on their contributions. And I made it in 4 days on cloudflare ecosystem using serverless.

I'm currently participating in Philadelphia Startup Weekend. I successfully pitched my idea for a not for profit and we're currently hacking away on making it a reality. We are one2many.org, we foster a culture that celebrates giving & helping and that inspires people to be generous & compassionate to one another. People donate used goods to us - items like old iPhones, iPods, routers, trumpets, bunk beds, etc. - and we then give these items away to people for free, in exchange for their volunteer service participation at local organizations (Habitat for Humanity, local soup…

Hello Hacker News, I'd like to share an investing/personal finance social news site I've pushed live a couple of days ago. It's based on the lobste.rs codebase, slightly repurposed to be more focused on discussion rather than link aggregation. I assume there’s a significant userbase overlap with HN since most of you who work in computing are well-positioned to retire early. There’s a running joke on /r/financialindependence that they are 99% software engineers. It's live at https://bitmia.com – if you’d like an invite, feel free to request one on the site. Hopefully…

After testing it on some of my friends for a month, it is now ready for the world.
