I use interactive rebase quite often, and particularly like the editor bundled with IntelliJ. But I do not always work with IntelliJ, and am not 'fluent' with Vim, so I tried to replicate roughly the same rebase experience within a TUI. I used a small TUI OCaml project i made last year. The notable features are: - Move commits up and down, fixup, drop - Rename commits from the editor (without having to stop for a reword during the rebase run) - Visualize modified files along commits - 'Explode' a commit ,creating a commit for each modified file (a thing I found myself doing quite often)…

I’ve been in the MLOps space for ~10 years, and data is still the hardest unsolved open problem. Code is versioned using Git, data is stored somewhere else, and context often lives in a 3rd location like Slack or GDocs. This is why we built XetHub, a platform that enables teams to treat data like code, using Git. Unlike Git LFS, we don’t just store the files. We use content-defined chunking and Merkle Trees to dedupe against everything in history. This allows small changes in large files to be stored compactly. Read more here:…

JSON Query▲152On a recent screen share with our designer at my FT job, I watched as our designer struggled with checking out a repository. It was painful because existing Git clients are confusing and nearly user hostile. Us software engineers are used to Git and terrible UX, but it shouldn't have to be that way. So, I wanted to make something better. Been working on this one for a while now, and while it's still very early stages, it's stable enough that I feel comfortable sharing it with the world :) I wanted a few things to be really easy and clear: - Merging between branches is explained before you do…

Hey HN, I built a VS Code extension that lets you do Git things without memorizing Git commands. You know what you want to do, move this commit over there, undo that thing you just did, split this big commit into two smaller ones. Git Navigator lets you just... do that. Drag a commit to rebase it. Cherry-pick (copy) it onto another branch. Click to stage specific lines. The visual canvas shows you what's happening, so you're not guessing what `git rebase -i HEAD~3` actually means. The inspiration was Sapling's Interactive Smartlog, which I used heavily at Meta. I wanted that same experience…

'git inject' is a git alias (see code at the bottom). It is similar to 'git commit --amend', but it allows you to 'inject' your changes into commits further back in history (using 'rebase'). If you're as pedantic as I am about the git history you're about to push into master (as far as I can control it, I strive to keep each commit conceptually coherent), you'll often come to a situation where you have a modification that really belongs in an older commit. It takes a few git commands to stash other changes away, commit the modification, then interactively rebase over some previous commit,…
