24 alternatives to IaSQL – Open-source tool to manage cloud infra as data in PostgreSQL

Hi all, IaSQL maintains a two-way connection between an unmodified PostgreSQL database and an AWS account. IaSQL at it's core is a diffing system between the cloud infrastructure state and the desired state that is used to execute AWS SDK calls to update your infrastructure. But we also use the same mechanism to take changes in your infrastructure, perhaps made via the AWS console or an IaC tool like Terraform, and pull that into your IaSQL database. We use an audit log tracking who made changes where to determine which way the synchronization process goes, and this gives us a lot of…

IaSQL is an open-source tool that synchronizes AWS cloud infrastructure with a PostgreSQL database in both directions. It uses a diffing system to detect changes in either the cloud or the database, then applies… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. IaSQL – Open-source tool to manage cloud infra as data in PostgreSQL launched in 2023; newer entries below may have overtaken it.

Hi HN, James, Valter, Sam and the team from ElectricSQL here. We're really excited to be sharing ElectricSQL with you today. It's an open source, local-first sync layer that can be used to build reactive, realtime, offline-capable apps directly on Postgres with two way active-active sync to SQLite (including with WASM in the browser). Electric comprises a sync layer (built with Elixir) placed in front of your Postgres database and a type safe client that allows you to bidirectionally sync data from your Postgres to local SQLite databases. This sync is CRDT-based, resilient to conflicting…

SnapQL is an open-source desktop app (built with Electron) that lets you query your Postgres database using natural language. It’s schema-aware, so you don’t need to copy-paste your schema or write complex SQL by hand. Everything runs locally — your OpenAI API key, your data, and your queries — so it's secure and private. Just connect your DB, describe what you want, and SnapQL writes and runs the SQL for you.

Hi HN, Today we’re launching PowerSync, a Postgres<>SQLite bi-directional sync engine that enables an offline-first app architecture. It currently supports Flutter, React Native and web (JavaScript) using Wasm SQLite in the browser, with more client SDKs on the way. Conrad and I (Ralf) have been working on our sync engine since 2009, originally as part of a full-stack app platform. That version of the system is still used in production worldwide and we’ve learnt a lot from its use cases and scaling. About a year ago we started on spinning off PowerSync as a standalone product that is…

Hey! I'm Andrei. I got frustrated by how people tend to build overcomplicated backend systems, being "motivated" by big tech case studies and popular books. So, I started exploring lean architecture, and building my digital garden of ideas, approaches and data that align with this direction. Here I want to present one of the tools – Sizing tool for PostgreSQL. I've benchmarked PostgreSQL on different EC2 instances and disks, with different initial data sets to see performance that these instances can give you. And I've built a tool to visualize this data, which I welcome you to explore. So,…

LinkedQL is a new SQL client that supports live queries over any Postgres, MySQL, and MariaDB database. You get result sets that self-update differentially as rows change in your database – via inserts, updates, deletes. Works with no extra tooling/ORM layer or GraphQL servers. You opt into live mode simply with a flag: client.query('SELECT ...', { live: true }). More at: https://linked-ql.netlify.app/capabilities/live-queries LinkedQL is written in JavaScript and runs in both client and server environments. GitHub + docs:…

Hi HN, we're excited to share our open source tool with the community! We previously posted here with the tagline “real-time events for Postgres” [0]. But after feedback from early users and the community, we’ve shifted our focus to working on tooling for manual database changes. We've consistently heard teams describe challenges with the way manual data updates are handled. Seemingly every engineer we spoke with had examples of errant queries that ended up causing significant harm in production environments (data loss/service interruptions). We’ve seen a few different approaches to how…

We too at first thought that letting an LLM manage your AWS account must be a bad idea. What could possibly go wrong?? However we couldn’t resist building it, and when we did, we were surprised how much it can do even in plain vanilla form, which currently is just the ai-sdk frontend with some aws sdk code generation (inspared by aws-mcp). We all but stopped using the AWS console internally and switched to Infrabase - a lot of the time it’s much faster to prompt than to click around in AWS console, especially for things that involve multiple steps, IAM roles, etc. So we started to think of…

xsql is an open-source Rust CLI + TUI for converting SQL schema DDL between database dialects. Instead of text-based rewrites, it parses CREATE TABLE statements into a small intermediate representation (IR), then emits equivalent SQL for the target dialect. This makes conversions safer, testable, and easier to extend. It supports single-file and recursive folder conversion, includes a no-typing interactive TUI, and recently added an experimental IR v2 with constraint support and JSON output for CI and tooling use. Feedback is very welcome, especially on schema portability and IR design.
