Hey HN, I'm James, a 17-year old full-stack engineer from Canada with a strong passion for building software. During the day, I work for a California-based startup, and in the evenings, I enjoy working on side projects[1][2]. For the past 3 years, I've been building and iterating on a product I called Horizon Pics, which is a file hosting service, similar to mainstream services, like Imgur. Horizon allows you to quickly upload and store all types of files, from images and video, to PDFs and other documents. The biggest differentiating factor is that Horizon's incentives are much more aligned…

Cmon... I just want to upload a file and make it public on the internet. Now you tell me I need to master bucket policies, ACL, CORS, multipart uploads, content headers, CDN, presigned URLs, and a bunch of other crap? I can't be asked, so I built FILE0. It's for storing files but you don't need to complete an online course.

This is a proof of concept utility which allows you to expose local services to the internet at large: https://github.com/skx/tunneller In short it is a simple ngrok alternative, which you can self-host. Because it is a proof of concept it hasn't been tested extensively, but it seems like it will solve my immediate-needs. Of course it needs test, and structure added. But feedback can't hurt :)

Hi HN, MageCDN is a simple and affordable image hosting service I have been working on for the past few weeks. The idea came out of my own frustration with hosting and optimizing images for my blog. While platforms like Imgur make it really simple to upload images, they don't allow you to embed them. Services like Cloudinary, Imagekit exist, but I found them too complex for my needs. Plus, they get really expensive past their free tier. So, I started MageCDN with three simple goals: - pricing should be affordable and scale linearly. - basic image operations (resize, crop, optimize) should be…

Hi! I am sharing this because it may be useful to others. I created a simple Docker image that lets you easily expose a web app running locally on your dev machine to the Internet, via a proxy server. It is a self hosted alternative to something like Ngrok, which is a paid service if you use custom domains. A small server is cheaper than Ngrok (I use Hetzner Cloud and the cheapest server costs me 3€ per month). I use this method in particular to test HTTP verification with Let's Encrypt for a SaaS app running on my Mac. Hope this is useful :) Code:…

So I'm a junior Go dev and I made a small site that allows me to share images with someone privately and securely, and give me control over how many times the private link can be shared and how long the image will be accessible for. There are similar services to this one, but they are either convoluted with ads, or require sign-up, or expect you to fill out a survey or something. picburn is small, safe, and has no interest (nor the code or the server space) for storing your uploads. give it a try if it fits your usecase and let me know what you think. Note: there was a typo in the url
