Quick background: I used to code. Studied it in school, wrote some projects, but eventually convinced myself I wasn't cut out for it. Too slow, too many bugs, imposter syndrome — the usual story. So I pivoted, ended up as an investment associate at an early-stage angel fund, and haven't written real code in years. Fast forward to now. I'm a Buffett nerd — big believer in compound interest as a mental model for life. I run compound interest calculations constantly. Not because I need to, but because watching numbers grow over 30-40 years keeps me patient when markets get wild. It's basically…

Hey everyone! I am an enthusiast trader and a year ago I had this idea to create a free-to-use website that would feature all the most essential tools that traders would use on a daily basis. So I learned to code and build it—I did everything including design, texts, code, and SEO—which took me 12 months to launch and a year and a half to make it look like it currently does. I was into marketing and design before, but I didn't know barely anything about coding. The website is built using Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and Typescript with Framer Motion animations and lots of APIs. I’m actively…

Read the Tape gives players the same 5 S&P500 stock charts per day to predict. You select low, medium or high confidence and then call the chart UP or DOWN. It's a 1d chart which then resolves over 5 days. Alpha is scored against the Monkey Index, a basket of 11 random coin flips at low confidence which provides a tangible win/lose condition. We're two weeks in and some interesting data is being kicked up. Players like to call tops even though stonks go up- 60% of the 70 charts so far resolve higher, players' down calls have only been right 31% of the time. There's a full stats dive at…

This is another one of my automate-my-life projects - I'm constantly asking the same question to different AIs since there's always the hope of getting a better answer somewhere else. Maybe ChatGPT's answer is too short, so I ask Perplexity. But I realize that's hallucinated, so I try Gemini. That answer sounds right, but I cross-reference with Claude just to make sure. This doesn't really apply to math/coding (where o1 or Gemini can probably one-shot an excellent response), but more to online search, where information is more fluid and there's no "right" search engine + text…

Hey HN - my friend and I built Prediction Hunt, a site that aggregates data from prediction markets like Kalshi, Polymarket, and PredictIt into one simple dashboard. It updates every few minutes, shows probabilities for each event, and even highlights arbitrage opportunities when markets disagree. I made it after getting tired of flipping between tabs just to see how each market was pricing the same question. Would love feedback on the product, data accuracy, and any ideas for what you'd want to see next.

Hi HN, I'm a solo dev and for the last few months I've been building Hikaro, a tool to find statistically significant trading signals for [e.g., US equities, crypto, forex]. I built this to solve my own problem: I was tired of backtests that looked great on paper but failed in practice. Simple metrics like "win rate" can be misleading, so I wanted a way to quickly tell if a signal's performance was genuine or just noise. Hikaro ingests daily market data and runs statistical analysis on various trading signals. The goal is to surface signals with strong properties, like: Low p-value: Evidence…

I built a web page that aggregates data about data center buildup, sovereign fund investments into AI and bottlenecks. The objective is to predict AI race cooldown by looking at a potential decrease of activity involving these elements. The website looks at the quarterly forms from the 5 biggest hyperscalers and adds their CapEx into the mix, calculating a composite index in the end showing how likely it is for the AI race to slow down. Enjoy!

Hey HN! I'm Alex, one of the co-founders at Global Predictions. We are officially launching PortfolioPilot today! I’ve been experimenting with a graph-based approach to a classic trading problem: why most dip-buying strategies can’t tell the difference between a temporary overreaction and a genuine structural collapse. Most systems treat a −5% move the same regardless of context. My hypothesis was that where a company sits in the market’s structure matters more than the price move itself. The engineering idea I built a knowledge graph of the U.S. public markets with ~207k edges across ~21 relationship types, organized into four layers: Operational: supply-chain relationships (SUPPLIES_TO, PRODUCES)…

Hi HN, A few weeks ago, we stealth launched SEC Insights on Product Hunt and were thrilled to reach the top 5! What is SEC Insights? It harnesses the Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) capabilities of LlamaIndex to provide answers about SEC 10-K & 10-Q documents. The enthusiastic reception we received on Product Hunt prompted us to open-source our project. Now, developers can use our project either as a reference or they can fork it entirely for their LLM-powered applications. We at LlamaIndex built this to help developers move their LLM app ideas from prototype to production. We're very…

For the last few months I have been analysing Peter Lynch’s books on stock picking and doing prompt engineering to check if AI could create useful stock analyses. To my surprise it started making reports that allow me to understand companies much faster with well cited sources. I hope you find it interesting and useful :) Perter Lynch’s books I analyzed: Learn to earn, One up on Wall Street, Beating the street

Hi, my name is Kam, and today my cofounder Josh and I are shipping Finterm, a CLI that gives coding agents direct access to financial data: stock prices, options data, SEC filings, and Ticker Deep Research, a filtered ticker news search. I’m a developer and have been a full-time trader for the past few years.Recently I have been using LLMs more and more in my trading and strategy. I always found it frustrating that Claude Code or GPT did not have direct access to actual financial information and had to rely on web search, so it couldn’t get me more granular numbers for specific options…
