Hi HN, Meng from TabbyML here. We decided to build this simply because we find Jujutsu (jj) really interesting, and many folks on our team have started trying it out recently. Since it introduces a very different workflow compared to traditional Git, we thought it would be a fun challenge to see how well current AI coding agents can actually use it. To build this, we created a semi-automated pipeline. We used AI to research the official Jujutsu documentation and websites, which then helped us bootstrap a dataset of 63 distinct evaluation tasks. Each task includes instructions, bootstrap…

I recently dug my Nintendo GameCube out of storage to revisit the first Animal Crossing game. Things were mostly as I remembered, but the game's heavy reliance on a clunky on-screen keyboard quickly wore my patience thin. Unwilling to accept this subpar experience, I did what any rational person would do and ordered a rare, Japan-exclusive, keyboard/controller hybrid on eBay, then used a Raspberry Pi Pico to 1. listen for keypresses and 2. send simulated controller events to the GameCube, automating typing in Animal Crossing at a Tool-Assisted Speedrun level. Of course, this oddball…

Hey HN! I've built this bit of cuteware (software not solving a problem but just for fun) inspired from the patterns made by swipe typing on mobile devices. To me it seemed like the closest thing to an English version of Kanji and it would be cool to consistently recreate those patterns. The implementation is vanilla js to keep things simple (and from a bit of framework fatigue) I'm keen to see how people use qwanji. Any and all feedback welcome!

I built this out of frustration as I lead the development of AI features at Yola.com. Prompt testing should be simple and straightforward. All I wanted was a simple way to test prompts with variables and jinja2 templates across different models, ideally somthing I could open during a call, run few tests, and share results with my team. But every tool I tried hit me with a clunky UI, required login and API keys, or forced a lengthy setup process. And that's not all. Then came the pricing. The last quote I got for one of the tools on the market was $6,000/year for a team of 16 people in a…

I'm a long time lurker that recently quit my job to work on my own projects, a lot due to the inspiration from Hacker News. Now I have published my first serious project, an app for learning how to write Japanese characters. It's the app I always wanted but couldn't find when I was studying. It tries to be simple to use, you just start the quiz and go with the flow. There's no need to plan and manage your studies, and it uses spaced repetition for better retention. There's a promo page with more details up at http://www.kanjibyhand.com. It's only for Android so far. The free version includes…

This is a game I wish I had as a kid learning programming. The concept of it is fairly similar to other coding games like Screeps, but instead of a complex world with intricate mechanics, Yare is a lot more minimal and approachable with quick 1v1 <3 min matches. It's purely a passion project with no monetization aspirations. And it's open source: https://github.com/riesvile/yare The first version 'launched' several years ago and I got some good feedback here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27365961 that I iterated on. The latest overhaul is a result…

I trained and deployed my first model: a Japanese city name generator using just a 3-layer MLP under the hood. It runs in the browser fully locally on the onnx runtime. Trained on <2,000 real Japanese city names, what's interesting is that on this simple task the simple MLP performed better than more complex models which tended to overfit and generate existing names.
