24 alternatives to Kasama – an IntelliJ plugin to keep track of your coding practices
Hi HN, I want to share with you an IntelliJ plugin I have developed and launched. Based on my own needs, I wanted a plugin that monitors my coding practices and gives me stats about them in order for me to improve on them. So, here is Kasama: An IDE plugin that works like a sport fitness tracker, gathering data on: - your coding sessions, i.e. how long are you active in the IDE and for which project - your activity in different modules, and how the activity is split between test code and prod code - your version control (git) interactions: how often you commit, the lifespan your branches,…

It monitors coding session duration across projects, activity distribution between test and production code… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Prices are shown for the 2 we have checked on their own sites, 2 of them free or with a free tier. Kastrafree tier, from $19.99/mo▲332Hi HN, Fernando and I built Kastra. Kastra intercepts AI agent tool calls and evaluates them against deterministic policies before they execute. We built this product to control pre- and post-inference workloads. This is aimed at developers using coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and OpenClaw. Kastra pushes an allow, hold, and deny decision before the action runs. You can build these policies in plain English from the web app. The interception engine evaluates the tools, targets, and parameters of every action at sub 1ms at a scale of billions of interceptions per day. We also…

TL;DR: We built Kanbanq, a minimal task management app for indies and small teams. It keeps Trello’s simplicity but adds proper backlogs, sprints, real-time collaboration and public board sharing. Free while in alpha, feedback welcome --- I’ve been working on Kanbanq with a friend. It’s a minimal task management app we built after getting frustrated with Trello. It was great for simple boards, but it falls apart when you need backlogs (that are more than just a giant list) or want to work in sprints. Kanbanq keeps the same clean feel but adds backlog management (our unique feature), sprints,…

Hi HN, I'm Djoumé. I've been a developer for over 20 years, and like a lot of you I've been coding almost exclusively through an agent in the past few months. It's been amazing to vibe code prototypes in any stack, but when it comes to building something reliable/scalable, I couldn't effectively guide the agent unless I knew the technology. And the scariest part is that I'm seeing a lot of my technical skills decreasing due to AI coding. Reflecting on my journey, I also worry about how the new "AI native" generation of software developer is going to acquire technical depth. So I built…

Weave▲237Hey HN, We’re building Weave: an ML-powered tool to measure engineering output, that actually understands engineering output! Why? Here’s the thing: almost every eng leader already measures output - either openly or behind closed doors. But they rely on metrics like lines of code (correlation with effort: ~0.3), number of PRs, or story points (slightly better at ~0.35). These metrics are, frankly, terrible proxies for productivity. We’ve developed a custom model that analyzes code and its impact directly, with a far better 0.94 correlation. The result? A standardized engineering output…

Hey HN! I'm Louis, one of the creators of Vibe Kanban. We started working on this a few weeks ago. Personally, I was feeling pretty useless working synchronously with coding agents. The 2-5 minutes that they take to complete their work often led me to distraction and doomscrolling. But there's plenty of productive work that we (human engineers) could be doing in that time, especially if we run coding agents in the background and parallelise them. Vibe Kanban lets you effortlessly spin up multiple coding agents. While some agents handle tasks in the background, you can focus on planning…

Kodus▲145Hey everyone, Just wanted to share a quick update we just launched at Kodus. For those who don’t know it yet, Kodus is a code review agent that runs directly in your team’s Git workflow (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket… and now Azure DevOps as well). It helps maintain code quality and consistency by analyzing each PR based on your team’s own rules and repository standards. Support for Azure had been a common request — so if your team uses it, you can now plug Kodus right into your workflow and give it a try. Docs: https://docs.kodus.io/how_to_use/en/overview Repo:…

Small team down here in South New Zealand just launched CodeLink. In short its an IDE (VSCode/JetBrains) plugin that lets you share blocks of code that link directly to the code inside your IDE or repo. We use it all the time and think its pretty nifty tech that lets you understand someone’s code in context very quickly. we’re hoping to keep refining it to make it better and more useful.
