Fascinating puzzle game based on the Knight's tour problem
- 1KS
When I was in high school, my dad showed me how to play Knight Tour on a piece of paper. Many years passed before I decided to create the Knight's Graph app. “Knight's Graph” is an intellectual puzzle game based on the classic knight tour problem, known since the 18th century. Your task is to move the chess knight across the board so that each square is visited exactly once. Test your logical and strategic skills in an exciting game where every game is a new challenge! The app is already available for download on the App Store. Google Play will be available a little later. App Store:…

This is the first iteration of a short game I’m making that tries to interactively explain some of my favorite math questions / ideas. My goal is mostly to get the player curious and not necessarily to explain absolutely everything. There were a lot of fun technical parts to building this: - For implementation reasons, it’s much easier if the lines all have integer intersection points with each other. To do this, when a new line is added I “cheat” by rounding intersections to integers and then splitting the old lines at the intersection into new linds (with potentially different slopes)…

Hello, HN - I wanted to share this puzzle game I made during my vacation. I'm rather fond of the pipes puzzle where your goal is to restore a scrambled network of connections by rotating tiles. It's usually played on a grid of squares and this all started when I decided to make a programmatic solver for that kind of puzzle. Then I realized that with some minor changes the solver could generate new puzzle instances. I thought about what kind of puzzle to make and someone suggested a hexagonal grid. Adapting the generator wasn't too hard but then I had to create a way to play this variant. So…

Hi HN! I'm the developer of rdx, a mildly popular ad-free, privacy and user friendly Reddit client. This time, I made something for a very specific use case: solving chess puzzles with no internet. Why? Well, my Wi-Fi is terrible in the bathroom—and that's where I do some of my best thinking. I tried printing out “mate in X” puzzles to solve offline, but they weren’t fun without interaction. So I built OffChess. OffChess is an iPhone/Android app that contains over 100,000 chess puzzles, fully offline and completely ad-free. You can solve puzzles by category (Mate in…

Hello, HN! Figure is a little side project I’ve been working on. Someone described it as Bejeweled meets Wordle. I built the puzzle interface and website in Next.js and React, which was a first for me and overall a great learning experience. The daily puzzle data is queued up in a PostgreSQL table. Another table stores anonymous solve stats. Once a day, a cron job hits a serverless API that promotes the next puzzle as “live” and prompts Next.js to update the prebaked static site with the new data. The game state is managed with Redux and your stats are persisted to localStorage. Framer…

Hi everyone! Graphs is the intersection of data visualization and the daily web puzzle genre (Wordle, NYT Mini Crossword, Connections, etc.). Every day, you are given a nameless graph and 5 options to select the right dataset it is representing. Upon winning, you can access the underlying dataset and other info + maintain a streak and stats. It's super simple - check out today's chart and you should be able to get the gist quickly. My email + twitter account (@graphsgame) is on the page, would love a feedback or a follow. Don't hesitate to reach out!

I’ve been working on a puzzle game for a few years as a side project. The game is based on a small region of tiles in a grid that is mirrored, modified, and mirrored again. It’s based on a novel phenomenon I noticed where, once these mutations happen a few times, the original region can be hard to recognize. You have a feeling there are symmetries in the image, but they are just out of grasp. Going further, if only part of the region is visible, such as mirroring off the edge of the board, it adds to the feeling and it becomes a satisfying puzzle to solve. I originally published this on the…

Messing with your TI-84 graphing calculator is a rite of passage for every teenager who has ever been bored in a math class. In 2013 I was that teenager, and it gave me an idea for a tiny game about sledding on graphs. This project grew into my white whale, and I spent my twenties trying and failing to finish it alone. I shelved the game when I started working for Hack Club in 2018—until last May, when a few community members took it off the shelf. The project took on a life of its own, and turned into a year of nights and weekends from a global team of 20+ teens in 8+ countries. Today…

A while ago I discovered three.js, a JavaScript library to manipulate 3D objects. It looked really interesting, but I had no real need for it... To change that I recently challenged myself to make one 3D web game per month with three.js. And I just release game #2, a puzzle game called Cuboid, and you can try it here: https://www.thomasfriday.com/cuboid/ Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback. Thanks!

Matle[1], a daily puzzle game that combines chess and Wordle mechanics. You have to guess a hidden checkmate. How it works: 1. You’re given a board with five hidden squares. 2. Guess the pieces in those squares. 3. You must form a checkmate! Hints work like Wordle: Correct piece & position Correct piece, wrong position ⬜ Wrong piece [1] http://www.matle.io/

Play Sokoban in your browser and watch an AI solver crack it. A plain-JS port of a native C++ engine, it returns the provably optimal (fewest-move) solution, entirely client-side.
