Products that do what Kotlin/Elm/Electron Tech Demo does
Another HN Desktop client: https://github.com/spennihana/HackerDesktop Last weekend user westoncb posted[1] an app built in kotlin/swing[2]. A comment there mentioned that an electron app might be an interesting alternative, and here is the result of this last week's hackings. It uses the firebase API underneath and elm/electron to interact with kotlin via the spark-kotlin micro rest framework. The icns were made with Adobe Illustrator. The dmg unpacks to a whopping 250MB (since it packages the JRE in addition to all of the usual electron junk). video link:…

Hello everyone :) Recently, my team (at VirtusLab) released an experimental support for Kotlin in Pulumi. This means you can use a convenient DSL to deploy stuff to your cloud (see examples in the repository). Getting started guide should be enough for you to use this in a toy project :). This is a proof of concept, so we would really love to hear your feedback before moving on. Please have a look at the "Giving feedback" section of the README.md.

Hi HN, After watching a lot of Show HN's here, it's finally my turn to show something. This is the first real project I have shipped, so it is extra special to me. For those who will inevitably ask why I made yet another mockup editor I covered it on our blog (http://blog.mocktailsapp.in/why-build-yet-another-mockup-editor-tm). Not all the features mentioned in that post have been implemented yet. As such Mocktails is pre-beta software and very minimal. It does not even have user accounts or any actual server side component at all for that matter (yet)! Our intention is to build Mocktails…

Hi HN folks! I’m the creator of Exo and wanted to share my progress with the HN community. Exo is an electron app that uses a chat interface and open Ai to write code directly to your file system/repos. Exo is a work in progress - its very new and has many rough edges. I was hoping to get some early feedback from HN folks and hopefully some early users. Once you create an account the universal electron installer link is on the dashboard. Here is a quick explainer video: https://www.loom.com/share/5f34499ccfb54bfdae32ee50f454b365 Exo started as a thin wrapper around…

Howdy friends! Tell me if this is an atrociously terrible idea - I've been working on building a leetcode for clientside devs so we can practice React and Javascript interview questions in a more concise way, I call it clientside.dev I just finished a beta version of it yesterday and plan on releasing it with many more problems on Jan 1st but it's there if you wanna play with it open to any ideas / feedback however mean or nice it may be :)

Hi, i was wondering what the HN community thinks of this email tone check application? Do you think this can be done better with open-source? Disclaimer: I am neither a founder or an employee at the company. Just someone who had a similar idea.

Hi HN, While building RAG agents, I noticed a lot of token budget was wasted on formatting overhead (HTML tags, JSON structure, whitespace). Existing solutions felt too heavy (often requiring torch/transformers), so I wrote this lightweight, zero-dependency library to solve it. It includes strategies for context packing, PII redaction, and tool output compression. Benchmarks show it can save ~15% of tokens with negligible latency overhead (<0.5ms). Happy to answer any questions!

Hi HN,<p>In my spare time (evenings and weekends) I've built 3 products which have been relatively successful even with little advertising (only google ads budgeted at $30 per day). The latest one is WcfStorm.Rest; which is a REST service test client. I built it because I found that the current tools did not have the features I wanted such as, intellisense when working with HTTP headers, syntax highlighting for JSON messages, etc.<p>I'm continually trying to improve these products and would very much love get your feedback. Every suggestion is welcome!<p>(My apologies…

I just launched http://teamzones.io, a project I had been working on during weekends that attempts to solve a problem I've run into as a member of a remote team: keeping track of _when_ people are working in relation to yourself is a pain. Since this is hacker news and some of you might find this interesting, the stack is: * Go on AppEngine on the backend * Elm on the frontend And here's a breakdown of the source code: ~/s/g/s/teamzones (master)> cloc --exclude-dir=node_modules,vendor,static,elm-stuff,elm.js,index.html . 158 text files. 156 unique files. 48…

After fine-tuning GPT for a personal project, I realized how tedious it is to write plain text in a massive JSON file. That's why I built this app for my own use, and I want to see if others could benefit from a tool like this as well ;)
