The time has come for us to move for greener pastures yet again. Our species migrated from Friendster to MySpace in 2003 and then to Facebook in 2005. Well, in 2009, Facebook turned to the Dark Side under the influence of Microsoft while locked in an epic war with Google. Many are still in denial and are suffering from Like Syndrome. The future of our species is at stake and Earth is getting hot and bothered about it too. LivGiv exists to restore sanity back to the Web and give power back to the biosphere.

I created this chrome extension for myself where I track my own behavior locally and recommend myself content from platforms I want content from (youtube/twitter/quora/etc) in a feed. I made it public just in case anyone else was interested. I would rather have control over my own algorithm and own the data. Also, it gives me flexibility. Turns out I do like these feeds just not when I don't own it haha. Let me know what you think of my implementation?

I got my start on the Internet in the very early 90s playing with, authoring in, and programming on LambdaMOO (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LambdaMOO) and similar systems. I've been working on an app in my spare time for about the past 6 months in between my day job and taking care of my 10 month old daughter. We ran the Leuven community detection algorithm on popular users on Bluesky (where the graph has edges determined by Jaccard similarity of a users' followers). We identified 118 communities and based on the names and descriptions of the top 10-20 users had LLMs generate title and descriptions for them. There are communities like "Feline enthusiasts", "Web Professionals", a bunch of NSFW ones and quite many communities are many different flavors of progressive/liberal activists.

I made this because I'm terminally online and I'm hyper interested in online communities, how they function, how they evolve and this is basically my bet in the direction that it's all going in.
