Products that do what Lobster.js – Extended Markdown with layout blocks and footnotes does
Hi HN! I built lobster.js which is an extended Markdown parser that renders directly in the browser — no build tool, no framework, no configuration. The entire setup is a single script tag: import { loadMarkdown } from "https://hacknock.github.io/lobsterjs/lobster.js"; loadMarkdown("./content.md", document.getElementById("content")); It's particularly useful for GitHub Pages sites where you want Markdown-driven content without pulling in Jekyll or Hugo. --- What makes it different from marked.js or markdown-it: Standard parsers convert Markdown to HTML — that's it.…

Hey HN! I originally built “html-to-markdown” back in 2018 (while still in high school) to handle complex HTML conversions where other libraries struggled. Now, I’ve released v2 — a complete rewrite designed to handle even more edge cases. It supports entire websites with a high accuracy. Example use: I’ve used it in my RSS reader to strip HTML down to clean Markdown, similar to the "Reader Mode" in your Browser. It can be used as a Golang package or as an CLI. Give it a try & tell me what edge cases you encounter!

(spoiler: its XSLT) I've been working on a little demo for how to avoid copy-pasting header/footer boilerplate on a simple static webpage. My goal is to approximate the experience of Jekyll/Hugo but eliminate the need for a build step before publishing. This demo shows how to get basic templating features with XSL so you could write a blog post which looks like My Article some content hello hello Some properties which set this approach apart from other methods: - no build step (no need to setup Jekyll on the client or configure Github/Gitlab actions) - works on any webserver…

`makedown` allows you to organise your shell scripts in one or several markdown files, by mix and matching different scripting languages for various commands and needs. zsh/bash/sh, python, javascript or anything else available on your system. Handy for replacing one-line-based package.json scripts or shell-based Makefiles. One can also write documentation and explanations to various commands in the same `.md` file. Most editors highlight correctly most languages in the markdown code blocks, even when you use several scripting languages. Here is a demo .md file…

HI Hacker News! I’m very excited to show you this project I have been working on, MarkdownSite.com. For folks who interact with the website, it is a web hosting platform where you can add your repository and have a website built from the `public/` directory. Files in `site/` with an `.md` extension are rendered from markdown to HTML, and the website is then available at a random subdomain. For folks that set up their own instance, it can also become a framework for customized building. The entire project is open source and I tried my best to document and explain the structure of…

Defuddle is an open-source JS library I built to parse and extract the main content and metadata from web pages. It can also return the content as Markdown. I built Defuddle while working on Obsidian Web Clipper[1] (also MIT-licensed) because Mozilla's Readability[2] appears to be mostly abandoned, and didn't work well for many sites. It's still very much a work in progress, but I thought I'd share it today, in light of the announcement that Mozilla is shutting down Pocket. This library could be helpful to anyone building a read-it-later app. Defuddle is also available as a CLI:…

I like writing Markdown, but do not like writing it inside a plain textarea. I wanted something I could use anywhere by dropping in a single web component: ``` ``` That became Writemark. It renders Markdown while you write, but Markdown remains the value you read, store, and submit. It also has source, split, and preview modes, along with slash commands, tables, task lists, code blocks, native form support, and an API for adding your own controls. There are no runtime dependencies and no required framework or built in toolbar. It is fully vibecoded. The process was very iterative. I knocked…
