Hi hackers! I'm a self-taught solo teenage dev ever wanted to show what you're doing right now on the internet? well I've been wanting to for a while, so I built Lynk, a lightweight macOS app that tracks your active apps, window titles, and daily usage in real time, and broadcasts that data over WebSockets. Oh and it also updates whenever you switch apps to connected clients! No SDKs, no APIs — just local tracking + a websocket endpoint you can ping from any language. Hi HN, I’m Marc, founder of Zynk, an application being built by a small bootstrapped team. Zynk is a cross‑platform file transfer + messaging app designed around two things: reliability (auto‑resume) and privacy (end‑to‑end encryption). The project started because I felt it's still a pain to move files and folders across a Linux laptops, a Mac workstation, my phone, countless other devices, and to others. Some existing solutions don't cross ecosystems, cloud drives are slow/inefficient/fragile for big transfers, and a lot of tools fall over when you sleep a laptop or switch…

Hi everyone, I recently published a small open-source project. It’s a minimal network packet analyzer written in Go — designed more like a learning toy than a replacement for Wireshark. It currently supports parsing basic protocols like TLS, DNS, and HTTP, and includes a tiny fuzzing engine to test payload responses. You can inspect raw packet content directly from the terminal. The output is colored for readability, and the code structure is kept simple and clear. The entire program is very small — just about 400 lines of Go code. I know it’s not anywhere near Wireshark’s level, and I still…

Hi all, I'm excited to announce Stratoshark, a sibling application to Wireshark that lets you capture and analyze process activity (system calls) and log messages in the same way that Wireshark lets you capture and analyze network packets. If you would like to try it out you can download installers for Windows and macOS and source code for all platforms at https://stratoshark.org. AMA: I'm the goofball whose name is at the top of the "About" box in both applications, and I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have.

I'm launching Wirewiki.com today! Wirewiki makes the internet’s hidden infrastructure browsable. I quit my job 5 years ago to scale Nslookup.io. But after reaching 600k monthly users, I hit a ceiling. I couldn't naturally expand beyond DNS because of the domain name. So I went back to the drawing board: how would I make it today? Not as a collection of tools, but as a browsable graph. I've spent hundreds of hours and commits building that. It's not even at 10% of what I want it to be, but more than enough to be useful, and (in my biased opinion) much better than what's out there. Wirewiki…
