Products that do what Marco, a privacy-first, offline-first email client (IMAP-native, no AI) does
Hey HN. I'm Isaac, and I'm building Marco (https://marcoapp.io), a cross-platform email client that works with any IMAP provider. macOS, iOS, and web today. I started Marco because I finally lost patience with Apple Mail, and the email client market has a weird gap. Legacy clients look terrible and/or are not cross-platform. The good ones scan your data or cost $300+/year. And there's a graveyard of startups (Tempo, Big Mail, Caley) who built beautiful products and shut down after a year or two. I made a few opinionated bets early on: 1. IMAP-first, not Gmail API-first.…

Hi! Recently I've launched - mybfio.io - platform for software reviews with social network aspect. Prehistory Many great system are already in place that allow people to search and rate software products, including the site I am publishing this post on. However I have always felt that those systems are not specifically centered around product/software development lifecycle (releases, real users feedback over a product entire lifetime, so on) and often too broad or not designed specifically for that type of work, which is ok. Why? As an opensource author I would like to have constant…

Hey HN, I'm Pau. We've been building Zernio for the past 9 months and we just crossed $1M in ARR (bootstrapped). Zernio is a unified API for social platforms. One API for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, and 9 others. Today we're adding WhatsApp. We've spent 3 weeks just getting a test message to send. Meta requires a developer app, a WhatsApp Business Account inside Business Manager, business verification (2-14 days), phone number OTP, webhook configuration with a two-step subscription, and token management for tokens that die every 60 days. Miss one step and messages vanish with no…

Hey HN, I'm a longtime reader and this is my first Show HN (exciting!) It's a collaboration between me and two friends, and we're building this upon another app we made called EmailYak, an API to receive email. We're trying something new and releasing the documentation to an app while we're still building it. We'd love feedback. Do you belong to any of these categories? 1) You've built an app with two distinct groups of users (say, people with cars and those looking for a ride) and they were able to communicate with each other. Did you expose personal email addresses? Did you send…

Hi HN, I'm excited to share a project I've been working on: UnwrapEmail(https://unwrap.email), an API designed to detect and verify disposable or temporary email addresses. Features: - Detect disposable email addresses - Extract labels from email addresses (e.g., Gmail) - Normalize addresses by removing labels or special characters (e.g., Gmail) - Validate MX records of domains - Check whether it’s safe to send to a given email to reduce bounces and maintain sender reputation Why I Built This: As the owner of an AI wrapper app, I've seen decent traffic thanks to SEO efforts + ads,…

I just shipped something I’ve needed for years - a more efficient email client. I finally built Omnia OS because my inbox turned into a landfill of AI-generated noise. If you're going to email me going forward, I suggest including a more compelling subject and opening line, otherwise all emails from unknown people will not make it to my inbox. AI draft-suggestion tools never solved the real problem: finding the messages, files, or company I actually need to follow up with. After securing AI systems for a living, I know how easy it is to weaponize prompt injection, so bolting AI onto email…

My email clients/inbox really fu*ing annoyed me. Tallyman is what happened next: a keyboard driven email client on top of Gmail and Outlook. Your vim muscle memory works (j/k, gg, relative line numbers, counts, ...) 39 rebindable shortcuts, command palette, email templates, themes ... No migration. OAuth only. Verified by Microsoft and live now. Google verification is under review. 30 day free trial, $9/mo per inbox after that. Write me an email if you need an extended trial: [email protected]

Hey HN, I've been working on an email client and wanted to get some feedback! Minimail is built on Phonegap, so it uses HTML/CSS/JS for everything user-facing. The app also uses emailbox (a related project of mine) as the backend API for receiving/parsing/sending emails. I think email clients need a huge UX/UI overhaul, and so I'm trying to build a flexible/hackable email client that anyone can customize to fit their email workflow. Thanks for any feedback! Alot of companies (Including the one i work at fulltime) use third party email builders to provide custom email functionality to users. However this is a niche sector and the prices are... insane? So to try and fix this i built Maillune, a embeddable emailbuilder sdk that is alot cheaper with a usable free tier for hobby projects. The entire goal was to make the features transparent and logical. With lower focus on feature paywalls and aiming on a more "Out of the box" approach. This is one of my recent projects ive built in parallel with my fulltime job. All feedback is welcome, good or bad!

Hi HN! I'm Louw, founder of the enterprise insurtech scale-up Root[0]. Over the last 8 years, my inbox has been flooded with unsolicited emails, especially since early 2023. Recruitment services, outsourced software development agencies, and a crazy amount of lead generation services (thanks, Apollo!) drowned my inbox. To solve this, I created Unspam. Initially, it was a simple tool for myself and fellow founders to reduce noise. And it worked — about 10% of my emails were swiftly and accurately categorized as unsolicited messages. Given its success, I've decided to package and share Unspam…

Built this after getting frustrated with the paying to a google for email. Now running it for 1 months in production. What it does: - Full SMTP server (inbound/outbound, DKIM signing, SPF/DMARC checking) - IMAP with IDLE support - CalDAV/CardDAV (replace Google Calendar/Contacts) - Web admin panel with Prometheus metrics - Greylisting for spam prevention - Auto-discovery (mail clients configure themselves) - Audit logging for compliance What it doesn't do: - Webmail (use Roundcube, etc.) - ML-based spam filtering (greylisting + basic heuristics only) - Clustering/HA

Hello! I just made my first web app with Sinatra. It is a REST API that helps people add two-step verification to their websites or apps. I am a complete noob in web development so please criticize me and let me know how shitty this whole thing is. :) http://two-step.herokuapp.com/
