Talanoa

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

In plain words

Talanoa is an email client designed to prioritize conversations and people over traditional inbox timelines. It organizes emails using a Kanban-style board to help users track messages requiring responses without relying on marking emails as unread or using labels as workarounds. Built by a fullstack developer, it aims to provide a quick overview of important incoming messages and reduce time spent searching through inboxes, rejecting the inbox-zero methodology.

From the sources

Your first email messenger. Talanoa turns email threads into conversations, with a people-first inbox, Kanban tasks and calendar. For macOS, Windows & Linux.

Email was always a conversation. We just forgot what one looks like. Every message becomes a bubble. Quotes, signatures and disclaimers disappear. Read it like a chat, reply like one too. A review. An approval. A proposal to send. Some emails need more than a reply. Give the work a place of its own, right inside Talanoa. Could you take a look at the roadmap and share your feedback before Friday? Marked unread. Labelled “To do”. Still waiting somewhere in your inbox. Hi John, Could you take a look at the roadmap and share your feedback before Friday?… A clear action. A due date. A place to track progress. And the original conversation, always attached. Check your calendar. Go back to your…from talanoa.email

Hi HN, I’m Nizar, and I’m building Zero (https://0.email) — an AI-powered email client that manages your inbox for you. Email hasn’t changed in decades, even though the way we work has. The average knowledge worker now spends close to 30% of their week on email, constantly reacting, replying, and sorting through noise. It’s become one of the biggest productivity sinks in modern work. At the same time, AI has transformed how we write, plan, and collaborate — yet our inboxes are still stuck in the past. I built Zero to fix that. Zero automatically prioritizes, organizes, and even…
